Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be applied to a blacktop driveway?

Asked by: Anonymous
Regular Restore is not recommended for driveways. However, Rust-oleum Extreme Concrete Restore is recommended for use on driveways, as Extreme Restore resists tire pick-up. That is to say that Extreme Restore won't peel off on to your tire tread when you drive over it.

Will this reduce heat in direct sunlight?

Asked by: Chuck
The product itself will not reduce heat. Pick a light color to attract less heat.

Can this product be applied to concrete that has multiple layers of stain on it?

Our pool deck is over 25yrs old and in need of repair in several places. Would this product be good to use over pre-existing stain?
Asked by: Anonymous
Restore will adhere to a previously painted surface if properly prepared. All peeling or flaking must be removed by stripping or sanding. Remove any algae, mold or embedded dirt. Glossy surfaces must be sanded. Surfaces that have been previously coated with a stain or water sealer that continue to bead water will require pressure washing or stripping to ensure good adhesion.

4-gal. Taupe Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Follow the instructions and you will have beautiful results. Also, TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN APPLYING. I've read many reviews where users complain that it splashes everywhere. No, if you roll slowly this doesn't happen. Take some time to do proper prep work (sanding, cleaning, sweeping, washing, etc.). I applied this to my concrete patio. The patio was covered with outdoor carpet before. I removed the carpet and applied this directly over the leftover dry glue. It covered so well with the first coat that I don't think I will apply a second. See the pictures for the results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good product for old decks Just applied Restore to a 32 year old deck in VA Beach. Apply in the shade as recommended. First coat: I would recommend using a regular paint roller vs the Restore roller for the first coat. Started with the Restore roller and it was very difficult to get full coverage. I switched to the regular type and it worked much better. Second coat: used the Restore roller and created a nice texture finish. This material is thick so be sure to have plenty to get coverage.I was surprised how much I needed for the second coat. You will be reloading the roller more than you are used to. No big deal just go slow and easy. Cutting in is kind of difficult with this thick stuff. You have to kind of dab and pull lightly. I used blue tape to protect siding etc. Be aware the material flings off the roller so keep that in mind with other surfaces around the work area. Clean up is easy. Covered up the splinters nicely. Another tip would be to go around and pre fill problem areas. Have to see how long it holds up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MAKES WOOD NEW AGAIN...YOU SHOULD READ THIS REVIEW I decided to go with Rustoleum instead of replacing the boardson my dock. The cost of the 10X restorer was about 25% of the replacement of the wood. The starting condition was very poor with large cracks and surface wear from a decade of direct Georgia sunlight. Total spend for all the 10X (24 gallons), cleaner, specialty rollers, and brushes was about $625. The results of the surface were amazing, filling in the cracks and sealing the wood to a hard, durable, and non-skid surface. A word of caution is that this a commitment to apply large area as I spent about 20 total hours in prep and application. I was also suprised at the inconsistency in the color for bucket to bucket which you can see in the pictures. I have detailed my expirence below but would recommend as the durable finish looks like it will last for a decade more... Prep: As with any project, you results are often measured by your prep. In the case of 10X Restorer this is no different, I put the time in up front to make sure the results were what I wanted. I replaced the boards that were too far gone or broken, used the recommended surface cleaner to scrub the surface, and tapped off support poles and dock cleats. The cleaner worked well and was a plus to be bio-degradable as I was working over the lake. First Coat: First coat went down think and using the installation rollers is a must to get the desired textured finish. I highly recommend cutting the rollers in half (see pic) as it made them the width of the deck boards and was much easier to apply board by board without getting too much 10X into each of the cracks. Coverage is about as advertised, however the larger the cracks the more you will need. The product was able to cover up some nasty boards and make them look new again. Second Coat: Again I used a roller cut in half to apply but also used a 3" brush to push additional 10X into the large cracks and holes. The roller cannot do this but after you are done with the brush you must go back over the area with the roller to apply the texture. I was dissapointed in the consistency of the color from bucket to bucket. I mixed throughly and mixed product from bucket to bucket but still had color variations. I had to back to one section with a third coat to blend them together (see pic). This was a big hassle and added cost but the results look good. Finish: The color issue aside, the 10X Restorer hardened like a rock, filling the cracks and really sealing the old wood. It basically made a new surface that has a great texture and 'no-more splinters'! I am concerned about the durability 5-10 years down the road because along with the cracks it also fills in all the screw holes. I do not know how you would ever get the boards off if they needed to be replaced in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck looks better than ever Easy to apply, though after the first coat I decided to use a brush instead of the roller. Roller made the texture rougher than I wanted. The brush took longer, but the outcome was a great looking deck. If you take your time and pay attention to detail, this stuff works as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stay away Purchased the 2.5 gal container Yesterday to do my deck. After using following the instructions on the container, I gave up after about a pint of this product, I come to realize this was just very thick paint with sand it . Trying to use a roller was not successful and even when I tried with a brush, it was difficult to go on and kept coming back up with follow on brush strokes. I gave up as was going to return to store , but noticed retailer has place a label on the container that this product was not returnable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage product - check out the reviews on the internet before you waste your money! Very poor quality product. HD should take this off their shelves. It does not perform as described, does not cover as described, flakes, peels , and it is very expensive. Too bad I can 't. Give it no stars or negative stars. You do not want this product on your wood deck. It will be very time consuming trying to get it off (and you will be trying) . The only real solution Will be to replace the wood, which is what you are trying not to do.
