Questions & Answers

Does the deck need special cleaning or preperation.

Asked by: Dane
Definitely! Very Important! Pressure wash every thing you want to coat. If you use any sorts of cleaners, make sure that you pressure wash again to completely rinse and neutralize pH. Also very Important to let it all dry out after all the cleaning. Note the condition of your wood after that, sometimes you might find more rot or damaged wood after you blast away the dirt and rotten paint.

Will the material fade in color over time?

How is the color going to hold up over time? Will it fade or transition to a different shade due to weathering? If yes, how long in direct sunlight is the color supposed to last?
Asked by: Volly
NO FADING HAS OCCURED IN MY DECKS OVER 3 YEARS BUT THE COATING HAS FAILED TO REMAIN ON AS IT CLAIMS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL MANUFACTURE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREP AND APPLICATION I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AS I ONCE DID IT MAKES THE DECK LOOK VERY NICE , GETS EXTREMELY HOT AND ONLY LASTS ABOUT A YEAR

How often is it expected that you will need to reapply this?

Is it like normal stain that will need to be reapplied every few years?
Asked by: chelz0r
With a very old deck,I didn't a little touch the following year. Our deck was old and the deck boards had a lot of splits, this stuff worked great

The color example here shows a speckled color which I like, is that accurate?

Rather than a solid textured color does it have large pixels of color?
Asked by: Lash
What you are looking at in this pic is the texture finish if you don't brush it out with a paint brush after you roll it on with a textured roller.

4-gal. Timberline Deck and Concrete 10X Resurfacer is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from WE would have never did it if they didnt tell us to We called restore and talked with them and they told us we could apply their product over another product and told them exactly what it was. We ask them if we could seal their product and they said just use any old water based sealer. This was not a good product to go over other products. This was not a good product to be sealed. It is cracking and bubbling everywhere. The sealer changed the color. The support staff completely misguided us.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peels after 4-5 months! We were excited about this product. Took before and after pics that looked awesome. Did the pre-wash as instructed. Took 2 weekends [pre wash one weekend - application second weekend to make sure it was fully dry] About 4-5 months after we completed the project - the stuff started peeling up. This deck does not get much use either - so it's not like there was a lot of furniture scraping across the surface...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money. not durable I did extensive research before redoing my deck. The reivews on this looked good. The only issue seemed to be its difficulty in applying. to prep our deck, we power washed, then scraped then sanded loose areas then power washed again. It wasn't too bad to apply. That was Sept 2013. After the winter , the deck is peeling, cracking and chipping. it looks horrible. My research shows MANY similar issues. This product is horrible. Clearly, they have a quality problem. That's likely why customer service hasn't responded to my inquiries. it is getting worse daily

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY disappointed I researched this stuff before I bought it. I followed the instructions to the letter: I washed with the Restore wash, I sanded the parts that needed sanding, I applied it between the optimal temps, I let it dry between coats, I let it dry the specified amount of time before walking on it or placing furniture on it. At first it was perfect! It was a great finish and the best color. Now, less than 3 months later, it is cracking and bubbling and peeling up. This stuff isn't cheap and our deck isn't small. I feel like I threw away time and money with this product!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Purchase - Do Not BUY We purchased this in the summer of 2013 and live Western PA where the winters are harsh. Prepped the deck exactly as described and allowed it to dry recommended drying time before replacing furniture. Looked great that summer. As we are preparing to place furniture on deck, bubbling and peeling of this awful product. This incudes areas that have no foot traffic and have never applied any snow removal product to this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Our deck is 12' x 40' and which the recommended brushes, cleaner etc have close to 1000 invested. WHAT A WASTE.....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Bad Experience Followed the manufactures direction exactly (pressure washed my 150 square foot deck, allowed it to dry for 4 days, lightly sanded the dry deck, used a blower to remove any loose surface particles, applied the first coat and allowed to dry for 2 days during dry 70 degree days, applied the second coat from another can and allowed that to dry for an additional 3 days). This was during late August. It's now December and the coating is chipping off the wood. This is the worst product I've purchased from Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVED THIS PRODUCT!! A year after application and we still get compliments. Friends think we got a new deck! Our deck was in rough shape prior and we almost were going to replace the wood, but we tried this first and it filled all cracks, even holes. Finish is neat textured look, but does not hold or pool water. Our deck is 8'X14', we used 2- 4 gallon buckets plus separate gallon can intended for the vertical slats and railings. It took us a couple weekends (allow dry time in between coats!), but it was SO worth it. I highly recommend this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money I had the same experience as numerous reviews I have read. We applied exactly as directed just in case we had to fall back on the warranty. Just a few months after installation the stairs started peeling up & now after the winter it's even worse. Rustoleum suggests I take pictures & email them so they can see the results. They also suggest we remove the loose & flaking spots, sand & reapply to those areas. They will rebate for the second application. That wasn't the warranty I was expecting. What happens when more of the deck starts peeling up. Do we just keep repeating this process???? Don't waste your money. Maybe if enough people complain more will be done to help people with this mess.
