Questions & Answers

How many coats are needed? Why would a person choose to apply two coats of this product?

Asked by: BB28
Highly recommend two coats. Great finish but one coat will not cover recommended coverage. I have a 330 sq ft floor and the Twp car garage kit left blotchy spots that had to be recovered.

What about hot tire? Will this pull off the floor after a car as sat on it over night like epoxy shield?

Asked by: Kane
Unfortunately, after a month we just had our first hot tire pickup. I am on here seeking a repair kit.... Love the look, spent a full day prepping the floor, followed directions to a T. The floor came out amazing, so sad that a 2" x 2" patch lifted. The rest of the floor looks amazing and seems to be in great shape. Hopefully it will hold up. No luck finding a repair kit though, guess I will have to get creative.

Is this product ready to apply or must it be mixed?

Asked by: jroohio
Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating needs to be activated and well mixed to ensure best results and proper drying of the product. In the box, you will find the material separated into 2 sections of a silver bag. Combine both sides together by bursting the middle seam and shaking/massaging the bag well to ensure materials are fully blended.

Does water cause fading/gloss issues

I read several reviews where the user stated that water left standing caused the coating to fade or become dull. Has anyone else experienced this? Most people will drive their wet cars into the garage and they'll sit until the water evaporates (not to mention snow, ice, road salt...etc. Standing water or a bag of lawn clippings shouldn't cause this. Looking for a good product for 3 garages and I will pay for a premium product but I want color consistency and no hot tire pick-up.
Asked by: Lakerat
My experience in Houston is the first time we parked a rain-wet car on it, we ended up with big, awful water spots. Nothing we have tried cleans them off ... seems the finish may be "etched" versus just stained.

But today I decide to write a review to hope that I can save someone time & money, especially getting a very ugly garage floor. I read mixed reviews here but decide to try it anyways because I trust Rust-Oleum, I have been using a lots of products from the company. It turns out this is product is GARBAGE. Rust-Oleum please do research about this product, do not let your company reputation get destroy bu this product. 1/I have 3 car garages base on some reviews about amount I bought 3 boxes of 2.5 garage. However it is still not enough. 2/3 boxes have different colors. This is very serious problem. 3/Dry time is not 24 hours, it is way longer than that So please do not try this product if you do not want to waste your time and money.

I was a bit reluctant to try this based on the mediocre reviews but felt with perfect prep and attention to detail that the product would probably work fine. The concrete was one year old with absolutely no oil or dirt on the 850 sf floor in a brand new garage....perfectly clean. I followed directions precisely and even rinsed 3 times after etching to insure good adhesion. I've have previously used other industrial grade 2-Part epoxy coating before at my business and so had a good idea on how to apply. The entire floor has "fisheyes" where the product appears to react with the concrete leaving hundreds of small voids where their is no coverage. Also, the stated coverage is not at all realistic.....it took 3 complete kits to cover 850sf. So $600 later and two days of prep work, I need to determine the best way to remove this product from my floor and replace with the industrial product that I used before. A REAL disappointment!!

I have a small 2 car garage so I thought the 2.5 car kit would be plenty of material, but It is not. It covered 2/3 of my floor. Additionally, when the material began to dry, it became very sticky and it destroyed the foam roller the kit came with. The finish is a mirror gloss which is a bit too much for my taste. It literally reflects sky when I open my garage and look out. I need more material to finish my garage, but you can't purchase additional polycuramine epoxy, which means you must spend an additional $200 for another kit just to finish the job. This paint is extremely expensive for it's low level of quality. You'd be better off buying a floor epoxy by the gallon, and buying your floor prep supplies separately. I now have to repaint this floor with a different product to avoid buying multiple kits.

I have a two car garage and purchased one double kit that says it would cover a two 1/2 car garage, well three boxes later my floor is finally covered. The outcome is only fair to my standards. Everyone who looks at it says how beautiful it looks but all I see all the imperfections. I did all the proper prep work but the issue was applying the product. My floor is 18 years old and was in pretty good shape. I filled a few minor cracks with their product and prepped the floor. I watched about 10 videos before I started the project to get several opinions on what were the best ways to do certain things. . The first problem was I could not for the life of me I could not get the bags to break inside the pouch. I stood on them rolled them and not ONE of the five bags broke and mixed the way they were supposed to. I called the company followed their instructions but nada. I did noticed on the box it said " new easier burst pouches" so obviously this has been an issue before. I had to cut the bags and pour them into a 5 gallon bucket. What a mess, plus I didn't get all of the product out so that explained part of the reason for the need for so much product. The next issue was the product was not as easy to apply as everyone states. I'm a very good painter but this stuff was so thick from the start and difficult to spread to get an even layer. I applied chips, and had to buy another 2 1/2 box, plus one single to finish the job. The first coat caused spider veins so there was no way I was going to let that go so the second coat took care of most of that. It took 5 days to dry in normal to somewhat cool conditions. I applied a clear coat on top to get an even higher gloss and it seemed to dull the finish. I should have left well enough alone. I pulled the cars in last night and I already notice tire marks. Not paint peal but tire tracks / dirt that won't come off. This a week later. You be the judge by my photos. I would never try this 5 day nightmare again. I will say the folks at Rustoleum have been somewhat helpful. They say they are going to credit me for the single box but have yet to hear from them. I sent receipts and photo. My advice, if you can afford to hire a professional do it. I'll pay the $2,800 I was quoted next time, if not, get as well informed as possible before tackling this job. It's not very easy and you'll get average results at best. I'll follow up in six months with an update.

Left my new garage floor (2 months old) with an uneven blotchy finish. I spent a long time prepping the floor per recommendations and will now have to repaint the floor. Plus I bought a two car garage kit for a 320 sq ft garage and had just enough to cover.

Etched/ filled in the cracks/ ground down the concrete with a walk-behind grinder/ etched again/ applied rocksolid concrete prep/ applied epoxy in perfect temp and humidity.. Woke up the next day with two different colors and a thousand bubbles.. Im in the construction trade and whatever I do I dont take shortcuts- If i cant get a decent outcome you can bet your life you wont. If Rustoleum cant make a product with consistent positive results .THEY SHOULDNT TRY-

The product is good, however I found the claimed cover of 2.5 garage is not correct. My garage is only 450 sq. ft., which is well-below the cover area of the product, but it turns out the the actual cover is by far what the product claimed. I ended up buy 2 more kits (3 total) to have the whole garage covered. The photos below were taken after the very first kit (see the 2 empty packages on the floor), and the amount is just enough to cover all the sides of the garage's wall. I feel not fair to pay triple the price to have my 2 cars garage well-covered. Really upset :-(

He said it was top of the line and everything I needed was in the box and I'd only need one coat. Well, he was half right, everything needed was included. However, there are two bags of paint (with parts A/B in each bag) which you need to mix thoroughly for 2 minutes per the instructions. I mixed it really well and started to apply in 4'x4' areas as recommended on the directions. After about a half hour, the paint started to cure while still inside the bag (instructions state in needs to be applied within an hour) and when applied came out a darker shade than when it first came out of the bag. This happened for each of the bags. Also, there is barely enough paint to cover a 2 car garage as I had to spread thin to get the job done. the two different shades of tan makes the flooring look real bad, I mean real BAD!!! I'm off to buy another coat to see if I can cover up this problem. I would not recommend to a friend.
