Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used to touch up chips in the bottom of a bathtub or do I need a different product?

Asked by: Chucky
Great question, Chucky. Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Touch-Up Paint is not designed to withstand the constant submersion of water. For this reason, we do not recommend using it for your application. Instead, use Rust-Oleum Tub and Tile Touch-Up Kit. This product is designed specifically for your application to touch up chips on the bottom of a tub. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-Tub-and-Tile-Touch-Up-Kit-Case-of-6-244166/204763640

Sink hole needs covered

A Water filter was installed in here and during move it was taken out, what can be used to cover this and also remove paint and rust from sink area
Asked by: Anonymous
You need to use an epoxy filler for that, and probably some mesh screen to cover the hole (on the bottom). If they don't have what you need at Home Depot (I know they have wall repair kits, but I don't think they include epoxy filler), you can use auto body filler from an auto parts store. Or you can use a tub repair kit--it looks like it's porcelain over steel, like many bathtubs. Put the mesh over the bottom and cover it with the epoxy, then fill the hole with epoxy filler. Sand it down so it is even with the top surface. You might need to paint it over with epoxy touch up paint if the filler doesn't match the sink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely Almond I purchased this color based on the review of the other person since I need off-white and the only choices were almond or white. This is most definitely almond colored and NOT off-white. Much darker than any off white appliance. Would recommend if you can find the right color. Just FYI.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Results I bought this to repair two chips at the edge of the range top. First off, I noticed that the product is not for use on hot surfaces. Hmm, it would have been nice if the salesman had told me that when I asked for something for range-top repair. But it was far enough from the heating elements that I figured it would be okay. Second, the paint DOES NOT adequately cover the dark metal underneath. I sanded off the rust and dirt first, then cleaned and dried the areas. But you can still see the metal. Obviously, some kind of primer is needed (I used three coats, by the way) Second, the paint doesn't fill the gap left by the chip, so there is still a depression in the chip. You'll need to fill it with some kind of epoxy and sand it to level it off. Third, don't believe the label when it says it "dries in 10 minutes." It was still a little sticky after drying overnight! Finally, the almond color was darker than the surrounding area. I can't really fault Rust-Oleum for that. I'm sure there are a hundred shades of Almond. My suggestion would be to buy an epoxy repair kit and fill the gap first. They sell them for tub and tile repair, usually white. Sand it down, and then cover with the almond paint if need be. This product is okay if all you want to do is keep it from rusting and if you want to make the chip it a little less noticeable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The color is not what I expected. The color was off-white. I ordered almond thinking that there would be a considerable difference between almond and white. Maybe it was supposed to be lighter than I expected. The caps or package should indicate the color.
