Answer:
Yes, Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating can be used on an MDF surface. For bare wood surfaces, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Flat White Primer to ensure proper coverage and adhesion of Countertop Coating. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-8-oz-White-Flat-General-Purpose-Paint-1990730/100168895

1-qt. Black Satin Countertop Interior Paint (Case of 2) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Counter top paint...never again. Was not prepared for the VAPOR/SMELL! After applying one coat to a 6' x 2' countertop, it stunk our entire HOUSE up as if aviation gas had flooded it. Also read the fine print that the vapor is flash dangerous (should be in big letters on the front). I didn't think the paint applied well, or smoothed out well at all either. Instructions call for 'light sanding' and I went beyond that, but still wasn't enough. Paint didn't blend well with that I'd applied along the edge (cut in) either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It won't fool anyone, but it is a nice facelift This is a good way to do a give a new look to an outdated counter top. You won't fool anyone however. It does not look like stock lamination but it is surprisingly durable. It has a nice matte finish when its all cured. It is not 100% smooth and has occasional waves which I think are unavoidable. It has a thick epoxy feel which is nice. If you try to drag a finger nail across it a faint noticeable line is left but the coating doesn't budge. Overall, its strong and durable, but you will not be able to pass it off as stock laminate. No questions asked make sure surface is clean and you use a foam roller or you will have lint everywhere. It smells terrible. You will get a headache. If you are using this on currently mounted cabinets, do it in the summer so you can leave the windows open for 3 days during the curing period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product at a great price! Sand, fill in chips and holes, sand again, paint and I added $5 paint chips I found on sale and did a clear finish and it came out fantastic! Don't pay hundreds of $$$$.I have never done anything like this before and it was so simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One Easy Step to A Fresh New Look The one step countertop paint is easy to use. For the laminate countertops a fresh new look without the expense.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great! Love the color, Hate you have to buy 2 cans, however, when my BF decided he could do better, he used all the product so glad we had two. I would have been happy with the first coat, if all the thicker areas had leveled out. Had problems rolling on with the recommended roller, used a brush which was better except for the extra heavy areas. Product didn't blend well being applied with areas covered. BF thought it needed sanded and clear coated. I had used this product three years ago with a gray, it seemed easier to work with. This black seemed to be more thick and less friendly. I know my sister also used this product, different color (wheat-she loved it with her green cabinets). she also indicated some application issues and had to apply two coats. moral: don't let the guys do this job, they want to work faster than this product would allow. Don't apply with fan or A/C blowing on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best counter top paint This is a great product to paint counter top. Easy to apply and shines are expected. I highly recommend this product to paint kitchen counter top. It dries quickly and the quality of finish is superior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black Satin Countertop Interior Paint I have tried this product and so far I am very pleased with it. I have only done a section of my countertops, but I really like the way it looks. It does take a little time and patience. I put one coat on and let it dry for about an hour and then touched up places i didn't get covered very well. It all blended perfectly. So far I am very pleased with the way it looks. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more so I can open windows as this product does have very strong fumes. I would recommend this product.
