As with any coating, surface preparation is the key to make this product work well. There are a lot of steps but it is necessary to get proper adhesion. Also, you must pour the activator into the paint can, put the lid on and shake by hand for a couple of minutes. This will ensure proper adhesion as well. The most important step is to not use the tub for at least 3 days. I went on vacation for a week after I finished so I got 7 days to let the coating cure. I used two cans to put two coats on the tub and tile surround. I cut in the edges with a quality brush and used a roller for the rest. I am extremely satisfied so far but it has only been one month. It seems to have a durable finish though. The only slightly negative thing I have noticed is the tub is pretty slippery but that isn't something a bath mat can't take care of. I'll try to remember to post an update after 6 months of use.

Did all the preparation following the instructions and the place that is rusted I prepared the most but today that spot peeled first. That is the only spot that is peeling off the tub,... not yet the other... I do not want to buy the kit again just to paint over that spot. Rather spray paint it but the Rust-Oleum 280882 Specialty Tub and Tile Spray Paint is pretty expensive

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steven Looks great and was a whole lot easier than I imagined.
The most time consuming part was preparation, actual application only took a couple of hours total. So far it looks great and seems very durable. So much easier than having to change out an old tub worn down to the cast iron and definitely a lot less expensive. If you take your time and work on getting on several thin coats you should have no problems at all with this product. Just make sure you prepare the tub properly and protect surrounding surfaces, oh and wear a mask and plan to spend some time out of the house till the fumes aren't so strong. I found also that there was more than enough of the paint to do my regular sized tub 4 times.

Renovated a house that had fire damage in the kitchen ! Bath tub was rightover the fire damage! Refinnished thebath tub with refinishing kitfrom rustoleum ! Just a bit of advise, spraying the will get you better results ! Although rolling it on did level it out nicely! You cant expectit to be tuff as tub glaze ofwhich is a given, but itis tough! Only problem we had is suction cups on bath mats will pull coating off bottom after a wile! Permanent peel and stick bathtub mats will remedy this! 2 years of daly use so far with 2 adultsand 2 children and it is holdingup nicely after the peal and stick permanent mat was instuled! Very happy for what it is!

I finished remodeling my bathroom two months ago. I refinished the tub and retiled the bathtub wall. It looked good. Within 2 weeks the refinished bathtub started to peel. I examined the tub today and it's peeling in several places. I follow the direction that came with the product. Now I have to strip all the white tub and tile paint off of the tub and refinish it again. My options are 1) purchase a more expansive product and redo the tub again or 2) Higher a professional company to reglaze the tub. or 3) Tear out the tub and install a new one complete with new tile. I can't believe that Rustoleum sells this defective product. It's a major black eye to the rustoleum name brand.
Home Depot needs to do the responsible thing and NOT sale this product anymore..

I needed two cans bacause I needed to paint the bathtub and fiberglass around it. 2 cans were just the right amount. It needed like 5 coats. My old tub was blue but it covered it nicely. A lot of work but it was worth it.

For the value, this is great. It should be noted, however, that this is not a perfectly smooth finish. The instructions for using a respirator should be followed because the fumes are incredibly strong.
