Can I spray onto a corkboard? I want to change to a chalkboard

Asked by: Tmac
We recommend starting off with an oil-based primer, such as Zinsser Cover Stain for proper adhesion of Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint to the corkboard surface. To help ensure an even writable surface, this product is recommended for use on a smooth surface.

You’ve come to the right place! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Spray Paint is a finish that converts wood, metal, plastic, glass, paperboard, and hardboard into a useable chalkboard surface. Smooth, hard, or glossy surfaces should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile. If a primer is desired to help promote maximum adhesion, check out Zinsser Bondz Primer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I used the chalkboard spray paint to refinish a small hand-held chalkboard that had become shiny from years of erasing. I followed the instructions on the can and sanded the chalkboard with fine sandpaper. I then wiped the dust off and sprayed the paint on the chalkboard. Per the instructions, I let the paint cure for 24 hours, then rubbed the new finish with the side of a piece of chalk, then erased the chalk and used the board. The results were excellent. Before applying this paint to a smooth surface, sand it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have! Its so amazing, you can spray it anywhere and that area or thing becomes your personal chalkboard. Its great for kids if you spray it on the tables. Even for school, if you want to chalk up your notebooks and binders. Its cheap and great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for quickly fixing up kids' stuff Super affordable way to make just about any surface a chalkboard. I have snagged a few random pieces of kids' furniture and toys (like an outdoor play table) that we keep outside. They were kind of funky, but I scrubbed them up and sprayed them with the chalkboard paint. The kids LOVE drawing all over their stuff. Every time it rains, we get a fresh slate (sooner, if I pull out the hose). I will warn you... if you scratch up the surface too much, you are going to have a tough time erasing. Be sure you sand everything down as SMOOTH as possible. (At this price, and for this purpose, I don't spend much time sanding at all.) Check out how I use this stuff at mommabish dot com

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best chalkboard paint I absolutely love this spray paint! I have tried other brands before but this one has always worked the best for me. I have used it on wood and glass and I have never had any issues with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quick and Easy I bought this product because a friend wanted chalkboard wine glasses for a wedding shower. After taping off the glasses and cleaning them with rubbing alcohol, I sprayed them and found short spurts worked better than my usual sweeping motion. I did apply several coats. I let the glasses dry for two days before gently hand washing. After the glasses were used, there were noticeable spots where the paint came off. I don't know if I should have sanded the glasses first, but the directions didn't say that was necessary. While the price is reasonable, and the initial results were great, the subsequent use of the glasses shows the product is probably not best suited for glass.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good! But.. I purchased this product to do a chalkboard wall in my kitchen. It sprayed on well, was SUPER easy and looks fantastic. I painted a 7 ft by 1 ft area and used the whole can. I love the look, and the kids love drawing on it. However, it doesn't erase very well unless you use a damp cloth. PROBLEM: there was black "dust" everywhere!! It is not visible to the eye, but our feet were black for days despite mopping the whole house. The paint was very hard to remove from skin, and made a huge mess of my tub and ruined a few pairs of socks. Lesson learned, spray painting to that extent in a home is not recommended. I would use this product again for something I can paint out doors, but if I was going to do a wall again I would try the roll on.
