Customer Questions & Answers

Can Rustoleum Specialty paint be used outdoors on PVC. I want to UV proof a tomato trellis built of PVC.

I am comparing Krylon paint for plastic with this Rustoleum for durability and ease of application.
Asked by: Clare
Rust-Oleum Specialty Paint for Plastic is an indoor/outdoor paint that can be used on polypropylene, polystyrene, resin, PVC, fiberglass, and vinyl plastics such as chairs, tables, and planters. We always advise testing the product in an inconspicuous place first.

Customer Reviews

12 oz. Dark Hunter Green Paint for Plastic Spray Paint (6-Pack) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage and look Just finished painting some old green plastic cheap chairs. The chairs were in bad condition mainly chalky looking. Completely cleaned the chairs with glass plus and let them dry overnight. The dark hunter green color matches perfectly with the old dark hunter green color of the chairs. After a number of hours they looked great whem they were dry. Unfortunately, this paint is no longer available in the store, I had to order it online in a 6-pack when I wanted more. I am hoping that somewhere in the future Home Depot will carry these types of chairs again. Everybody is carrying Annarondeck chairs. I can't get in or out of those chairs with bad knees and back. Love these old chairs and I'm glad that I was able to restore them with this paint. Please bring back dark hunter green regular chairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This paint did an excellent job of covering my old... This paint did an excellent job of covering my old hunter green plastic chairs. Aside from thoroughly cleaning the chairs with Glass Plus and letting them dry overnight, I didn't do anything but spray them. The chairs were in great shape except for the color which was really faded, so I didn't want to throw them out. This paint matched exactly, I mainly painted the front of each chair and the legs. I had no issues with the spray cans like I have read on other posts. I also sprayed over them with a clear matte finish to help preserve the finish. NOT a good idea. The clear matte spray caused very tiny bubbles. I had to let it dry and respray again. I also suggest purchasing the Rust-oleum Spray Can Grip attachment to add to the top of the can. It gives a more even flow, is less strain on the hand, can be used on all spray cans, and is worth the cost ($5.00). They can keep all the fancy bright colored chairs on the market now, I'll take the beautiful hunter green earth tone which matches with the surrounding woodlands and forest by my home. Wish there was an option here to share a photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on exterior shutters I did a lot of research on the internet about paints that would cover vinyl plastic shutters. Every search would lead me to a Krylon products for plastic which is hard to find in big box stores and more expensive. My neighbor had used the Rustoleum plastic product and had a half of a can left and let me use it. Worked very well and coverage was excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied, so far We bought several flats of this paint as an aerosol, because the price was about the same as in gallon cans. It was to paint and sun-protect two 2,400 gallon polyethylene water tanks without using a separate primer, in late August, 2014. We don't like redoing work frequently, so we wanted something that would adhere especially well, even though the tanks are somewhat weathered rather than being very slick on the surface. We had a little of the problem that people have mentioned about spatter, but not much different from using any other spray paint cans; changing our angle and our way of pressing the plunger seemed to help if spatter occurred. Overall, the paint went on nicely, and it appeared to grab the surface well; we are pleased with the result. Instructions about preparation, shaking the can, application temperature, and adding coats were followed. If I come back to this review in five or ten years, I hope to say that the paint is still like new, but that is of course a while off.
