I would say first test it on a spot to be sure there are no problems with the vinyl coating, but I highly recommend this product for any painting of metal project! Look at the project I used the paint on and yes I did paint the whole thing with Rust-Oleum Gloss White appliance paint!

Answer:
Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy is not recommended for this type of surface. If you are looking to repaint over a vinyl coating we would suggest using Rust-Oleum Universal (Model # 245199).

Most paints don't stick to plastic very well, but you have 2 options. You can use Rustoleum paint for plastic, or use a special primer and then use the appliance epoxy, or any other paint you want. The paint for plastic is a semi-gloss enamel. Appliances are gloss enamel, but if a semi-gloss is ok, then plastic paint would work. If you want to use gloss paint like the Appliance Epoxy, then prime it first with Rustoleum plastic primer. Clean the plastic first. I like Purple Power cleaner, but there are others. I would clean it with a Scotch Brite sponge/pad, and make sure it is completely rinsed. When it is dry prime, then paint. Another alternative would be to use vinyl contact paper to cover the existing panel. I think that you will get better results in any case if you remove the panel and work on a flat surface. Maybe you will find a white metal door behind the panel. This is about the primer.http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/0c/0cc684f8-759d-42cb-8e5a-5012da930dc8.pdf Read Less

Oil based paints release petroleum based solvents as they dry. I'd check with Rustoleum and see what they say. Go to http://www.rustoleum.com/

I have a small backsplash in our guest bathroom, which I would like to refinish, but going with the full Rust-Oleum tub/tile reglazing kit seems like overkill (area is only about four square feet-- maybe five tops). Could I use this product to refinish the backsplash tiles white?

Answer:
Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy is not recommended for a tile surface. Instead, you may want to consider priming with Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Waterbased Primer and then topcoating with a white paint. The Bullseye 1-2-3 can be used on multiple applications.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't use if you want a smooth finish Drips fly everywhere as you spray. It doesn't matter how much you shake or move the can. Big and small globs are left all over the finished product, which will persist through multiple coats. July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Refrigerator looks like new Our refrigerator had some worn spots in the paint, and it was not shiny any more. It is a textured surface, which sand paper can not get in the little dips. I used a green Scotch Brite pad and scouring powder to clean and roughen the surface. I then used lacquer thinner to remove any oil or grease. I gave it a very thin coat and let it sit for 5 minutes, then gave it the final coat. The first coat partially dries and hold onto the final coat for a smoother finish and less runs. It is important to overlap the strokes by at least 1/3 and keep the can a consistent distance from the surface, using an even speed. The finish now looks at least as good as the factory paint. It took 2 cans to paint the frig. If you are careful and take your time, you will get excellent results. Great price too!! May 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just like new... My old refrigerator began rusting on the front for some reason, it works great but was an eyesore. Tried another brand 1st, to no avail, it dripped down and was unsightly plus the rust began to show through. Cleaned the rust off again and sanded down the front, picked up a can of this product, removed the doors and went outdoors to spray them, waited for them to dry in about an hours time. Went on smooth, no dripping, has a nice glossy sheen, looks just like brand new. It's supposed to deter rust so I will see if it will live up to that claim over time, so far so good until then. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for custom wheels Had a set of chrome wheels that leaked around the bead seal area. Nothing seemed to fix the leaks UNTIL I wired brushed the corroded spots then painted the inside of wheels. Easy to apply, great filling properties, and tuff enough to stand up to the tire mounting machines. Will use this product for everything now ! November 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazed I usually don't write reviews but I had to for this product. I had a fridge that was working just fine in a rental unit. No noise or anything. The exterior had a lot of rust and grease stains from a dirty tenant. One can of this stuff and poof - right back to new again. If you're going to spray this indoors make sure the window is closed as your spraying it and use a dropcloth to catch over spray. Once you're done open the window again so it can dry. The smell will go away in a few hours. May 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MANY OTHER USES, GREAT FINISH I have used this on appliances, vehicles and even a boat! Minimum 3 coats and light wet sand then high gloss clear coat looks great! Would of thought I took the boat to a professional to have it sprayed! April 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Professional work by an amature I bought a pair of washer and dryer pedestals on Clearance, $99/each. Normally they cost $250/each, so this was a great deal. But the only color they came in was Navy Blue with Silver. I used this product to change them to white and I was more than pleased with the results. They were shiny and fresh. No gloss overspray was needed! I was so please with myself! August 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Honda Guy. This is exactly what I was looking for. LOL I was thinking I might try to paint a car with this stuff and I was checking to see if some one else had done it. POOF, found this review, The reason I had the idea is I had an old boat prop - 6 hp clinton. it was nicked and chipped a little so I sanded it out and got it smooth and i had the idea to paint it sos I would be able to see where it was taking the most beatings. I grabbed a can of this stuff and shot it. let it dry and put it back on the motor, took it out for a day of fishing on the lake. The motors loaded on a inflatable 11 foot raft so it goes in some pretty shallow water, I hit a few things here there is what i am getting at. when I pulled the boat out of the water i inspected the prop. I was inspecting to see the marks, damage. anything really. guess what though! it looked exactly like it did when I was finished. This is some seriously tough stuff. I think I will try it with a mini bike frame. if that works out The bugs getting the cheapest paint job I have ever bought. LOL January 12, 2014
