Bought this for two projects in my house. One was a board in my kitchen and a bigger project (a small wall section). My first mistake was unintentionally buying the tintable paint as opposed to the actual black paint can. I chose the "Moonstone" tint based on the color of the can expecting a truly darker finish. The outcome was a lighter boring gray that just doesn't have the traditional look I wanted. From the beginning of application I could tell that this was going to be a bust - uneven application. Very disappointed. I have an entire can of paint that's going to sit there. I don't feel like buying another can- completely killing my craft mood.

Color samples on the can is not what color is in reality. Tried multiple applications and techniques - not able to get a smooth surface on glass (product states it can be used on glass surfaces) can't write on uneven surface - which is why I bought paint for my project.
I have used the spray paint chalkboard paint for other projects - much better results (not rustoleum brand) this project was smaller and spray paint was not going to be easy due to the amount of masking required to protect non-painted surfaces.

I followed the directions that were on the label, but still got a very uneven finish. I stirred the paint before applying to ensure that it was consistent (to avoid blotches) and used a high quality foam roller. The paint came out bright blue when it Banner Blue was supposed to be more of a navy. I used up the entire can of paint and it was still uneven. I let a day in between coats thinking that I was lifting the paint. It took me more than a week to paint this part of my office. If I had known this, I would have just gotten black paint to make my life easier.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dustfuzzie Terrible, miserable product
After 4 coats and 2 quarts of this paint on a brand new primed wall, we could never get a solid color. I couldn't edge with this paint at all; it ended up streaked and terrible looking, no matter how many coats. The finish was so rough and pitted that when we tried to prime it for use, the chalk dust filled the pits and holes in the paint. I now have to sand the entire surface, after peeling off the parts that wouldn't stick to the wall. Not to mention, the smell while we were painting and waiting for coat after coat to dry was a bit intense. I would NOT recommend this product, will not ever use it again, and probably won't buy Rustoleum in general, as I have NEVER had good luck with any of their products.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hudsonvalleychalkcar Better then I expected
I was expecting this to be great but a little difficult to apply since I was painting my car with it. I used a roller and it worked perfectly. Took me about 2 hours to paint the whole car with only 2 layers and I love it. Easy to apply, works great, and now everyone has a blast with my car.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by justmytwocents You can easily roll this
I read a review stating that the package was incorrect and you couldn't roll this paint. Completely untrue! I have painted this stuff multiple times and it always rolls great. You have to use a super smooth foam roller and your coats should be thin as they always should be when rolling paint. Maybe if you just dipped the roller into the paint and didn't roll it out on tray like you are suppose to then I can see it becoming an issue but otherwise this is a simple application with foam roller. Creates a super smooth untextured finish. As a side note I would sand the wall smooth and clean first if that is what you are painting. Don't skip steps you won't have the finish product you are looking for.

I got this chalkboard paint in the Chocolate Brown, rather than black, for my son's room to use on one wall. I love the color! It matches his room, better than black, and same effect for chalking. You have to wait 4 hours to apply the second coat, but you will need to! First coat is thin and sketchy. Easy to apply though. You will most likely need 3 coats. So, for one wall, plan on getting 3 of these 29 0z. cans. It's worth it! So different, that it was much more pleasurable painting ..knowing u can write on it later! Easy to clean up! I only wish I could get by with one coat, like the paint n primer in one. Or, that they made this in a GALLON size! By the way, you don't need any primer before painting chalkboard paint:) It grabs any surface well:)

I got a gender neutral color (deep teal) to do various projects. It went on really easily and the color is beautiful. I recommend you put it on with a sponge roller instead of a brush. When it dries if there are bumps it makes it hard to write on with chalk. The directions say you need 2 or 3 coats, but I definitely needed 3 coats. I painted it onto metal and it worked wonderfully. I'm currently searching for more projects to use this with.
