Or would you need to use a primer first (if that would help)?

Answer:
Sure can! Rust-Oleum Specialty Clear Chalkboard Paint may need to be recoated more frequently when using these types of markers due to the wet erasing. It’s easy to reapply if needed! Just sand the surface with 180/220 grit sandpaper, clean and once dry, reapply!

Answer:
Rust-Oleum Specialty Clear Chalkboard Paint would not be recommended over peel and stick wallpaper, Katie. The product typically does not bond properly to this type of surface. If you happen to have any scrap pieces of the wallpaper around, you can test a small area to see how it performs for you.

Answer:
It is not recommended to use dry erase markers on Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint. This product is not designed for this type of use. For a surface that can be used with dry erase markers, use Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Kit. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-27-oz-White-Gloss-Dry-Erase-Kit-241140/100670376

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for dark surfaces! I've used this clear chalkboard paint on several projects, a light wood cabinet, a white cabinet and a dark board, and I think I like it best on the dark board. The paint goes on easily and dries quickly. The clear finish does present a unique opportunity, but also a challenge. I didn't find that the chalk showed up as well on the lighter pieces (even colored chalk). Be sure to have a foam brush or roller handy. Plan on doing 2-3 coats for optimal coverage. I've been impressed with the results so far and can't wait until I find the perfect project for this paint! March 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Too thick Opened can to find thicker than glue consistency, did not improve with stirring. Read some reviews that said it is thicker than normal paint so decided to try it on a small area. Went on in clumps. Fortunately, able to remove it with acetone and only had to repaint small patch of wall. Too bad, it seemed like a simple, fun project but turned into a mess. I would have snapped a pic but was more concerned with getting it off the wall. I did buy it on clearance so maybe the product was sitting on shelf too long. Called tech support who said consistency should have been like regular latex paint. If I decide to try to exchange it for a new can and have better results I'll update the review. February 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Made a project come to life. Wanted to make an entire wall a chalkboard and this paint made it happen. Painted the wall a nice navy blue color, then put 2 coats of this paint (one quart did the job...I'm very surprised...great coverage). I'm very pleased. Instead of the classic black or green chalkboard, I have a "blue board". Its great. I'm a school of one. I use it to teach myself. It's a great product. I'm old school. I love chalk...not marker board or computers...give me chalk. This paint made a project come to life. Gotta go...I have learning to do. :) January 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Paint I love this paint! Made an extra blank wall very fun. Paint is very thick, you might need more than you think to cover. I only did 2 coats when I heard 3 should be the usual amount, but everything has been fine so far. The only negative thing is it has a REALLY strong smell. Youre supposed to let it cure for 3 days, and the smell was there all 3 days unlike normal paint. Woudlnt recommend you do this in a childs room unless he can stay somewhere else for the curing period. December 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Congealed Mess When purchasing this product, make sure to open the can before purchase to see if the paint has solidified. I had to go through 10 cans to find one that looked normal, however once I tried to apply the paint, it clumped on the wall. November 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great to use in any home This chalkboard paint is a great product that can be used in any room. It's application to wood, plaster, metal or masonry and concrete makes it great to use on a refrigerator to write down items needed from the store or maybe on the wall of a bedroom for the kids to draw cute pictures, especially with colored chalk, which is why I ordered this. The grandkids love it. It has a nice matte finish so it doesn't look overwhelmingly shinny or coated. Definitely follow the directions to let the paint fully dry for 3 days and then prime it by using the side of the chalk to cover the entire painted space and then wipe off. Cleans easily with soap and water. Great idea. March 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clear Chalkboard Paint I was very uncertain about buying this product since it was new and there were not any reviews on it yet. But I wanted a chalkboard paint in a color that was not available or at least not in a size large enough to cover the wall space I wanted. This product was easy to apply (I put on two coats just to be sure), didn't change the color of my wall paint and works great as a chalkboard surface for my two little girls. I did follow the instructions and waited the appropriate time between applying and using the surface and it does work better after coating the entire surface with chalk dust before using. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It's certainly clear, works well with bright color chalk. I painted this on a wall that was light blue. The paint dried very clear and only the slightly more matte sheen indicated where I had painted. It seams to accept chalk marks pretty well. A sidewalk chalk works best in a bright color if the wall is light. It wipes off clean. It works pretty good for something that doesn't change the color of the wall. Use this on walls or your kid's table. The surface must be smooth. May 7, 2015
