2 questions: concrning the chalkboard paint, does the product work on the average knock-down textured surface? Is it brush and roll-able?

Answer:
This product will apply well to any surface. However, the important point is that chalk will not work well on anything but a very, very smooth surface. Knock-down, stippled or even semi-smooth orange peel surfaces are not chalk friendly.
A foam brush gave me the best result. A high quality, high density roller I tried left an orange peel surface.

Answer:
It would be best to use it on as smooth as surface as possible so maybe if you sanded it down a little it would be okay. Also, you need to do at least 2 coats of primer on it first. We used it on plywood and a thick particle board. It is best to use a foam roller to apply it as a brush will leave brush marks. The roller allows it to go on very smoothly.

Well, I used a brush which I clean easily after use with water and I do believe that the paint is easy to use with a roll and on different texture surface.

Answer:
If you are painting on drywall that has already been painted, you are good to go. If not, a primer will be needed. If not sure of the surface, you can sand it down to a smooth finish.
It is rollable, preferred. Use a dense foam roller.

Answer:
Yes. We used both a brush and roller. Brushed the edges first and rolled the center. And we did this on the back of a pantry cabnet door. We did not pre-sand, we just went over the finish. I wipe it down with a damp cloth to clean - let dry and write on it again. It has held up well.

I think it works best on a smooth surface however simply because it's chalkboard and you are going to be writing on it. If the surface isn't smooth writing and/or drawing will be more difficult.

Model # 206540, Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint, can be rolled or brushed on.
Use a good quality synthetic brush, 1/4" to 3/8" nap roller or a foam roller designed to give a smooth finish.

For best, most functional results, you want the surface to be as smooth as possible. You can apply it over anything, but to be able to write/draw on it? And erase it afterwards? Smooth is best.

According the can, it says 95 - 120 sq ft per coat. The toy box we just built has approximately 24 sq ft of chalkboard surface on it and I think I did about 5 or 6 coats on it and still have a little in the can. Hope that helps!

I doubt it. It might for a short time. It if is not in direct contact with the weather, it might be okay, such as on a covered patio but I don't think it would work exposed to weather all the time.

Irene, it is difficult to answer this question without knowing the square footage of the room you are looking to finish. A 30-ounce can of Rust-Oleum Flat Black Chalkboard Paint covers approximately 95-120 square feet.

Used 1 can for two coat application of a 4' x 6' (24 sq feet) section on a wall. I would suggest you use the following website to help calculate the total square footage of the room, and note the can was good for 24 sq foot.
This is the website to use to make your proper choice. http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/construction/square-footage-calculator.php

Answer:
A lot!!!! You will need 2 coats for complete coverage and durability for writing and erasing with chalk. To save money, you would want to first paint the room in a very dark gray or even black color to get you to your desired level of coverage sooner. Depending on the size of your room, two coats of a quart of chalkboard paint covers about an 8x20 wall.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 112 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It did the trick I removed outdated wall paper, and replaced it with two coats of this chalkboard paint. The surface is durable and has stood up to repeated use and cleaning with a light misting of water. March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great! I applied this to a textured wall after applying magnetic primer. I wanted a magnetic chalkboard on a dividing wall in my kitchen. I used 2 coats and it is perfect. I was concerned about the texture but it worked fine. The magnetic primer is ok, not great. I got what I wanted in the end, though. I've reviewed the primer separately. May 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stuff I painted the end of my kitchen cabinet with this. It's thicker than paint, so it took a minute to get the technique done, but I love it! Sand in between coats, and apply three coats for nice, even coverage. Then have fun! May 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I'm not gonna lie, it's a great concept. I mean, chalk board paint? I had to get it. I put it up on one wall in my recording studio. I looks great, and you can't tell that it's chalk board paint. I tried writing on it for the first time a few days ago and I worked...for the most part. I wrote perfectly and it looked good, but it was hard to erase. I needed to use a wet rag. Other than that I think this is a great product. May 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple & Easy Pickyour place Wall or Board. Paint and you have a chalkboard April 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lots of Fun and easy This was for the youth room at the church. Did a 6ft x 4ft section on drywall, and 1 can did it all. Painted the first coat and allowed to dry overnight, and put the second coat on the follow day. Take time to do if at all possible, did a 1x3 frame and stained for the frame around it. Kid's love it and don't forget to take the time to read directions carefully. Cleaned the wall with just warm water and rag, and allowed to dry overnight and used regular chalk. I also watched online video's and all on this prior. For the cost and the outcome it is fantastic. Again two coats needed for a 6 ft x 4 ft section, painters tape and take your time and keep it mixed. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great paint, fun for the kids, they love it I asked the HD store associate about using this paint. After she said a family member used it, I decided to use it in our TV room with a laminate floor. I used one small can to do an area approximately 2 feet by 4 feet. It took two coats. It wipes clean easy, and the kids really enjoy it. My only concern is if and when I decide to paint over it, will I need to sand it down first, or will it be visible through. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chalkboard Paint This product was easy to use, went on in one coat, and performs very well. It was also reasonably priced. March 8, 2016
