Follow the instructions... I just bought my first home, followed the instructions and this product worked like a charm!
2 coats of primer, sanded down the wall, 3 coats of paint (still have a lot left in the can), let it dry for 3 days, rubbed chalk all over the wall and boom! I have a chalk board wall!
I would use this product over and over again, perfect!
If it doesnt work for you, you are doing it wrong! Love it!!!

I recently bought this paint at my local Home Depot. Used it to create a chalk board wall in my kitchen. Applied two coats of the paint and once dry was able to draw on it immediately! It's easiest to wipe the chalk off with a wet towel. Comes off super clean and fast that way. Love the look it's given my kitchen. Would do it again in a heart beat!

Very easy to apply. I used the magnetic paint under the chalk board paint. The chalk board is very easy to wipe down after using. My grandson loves his new play room! This is a great way for children to "express" themselves.

Bought this to do bunch of decorations for our wedding. It was affordable and easy to use. I even painted an old truck door with which was the welcome sign. It went a long way and still have half a can left! And, yes, chalk and chalk board pens write on it just like the real thing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mikeinva Forget the roller and use a foam brush
Don't try to use this stuff without priming, and if you are priming with MAGNETIC PAINT before applying this stuff use a 4" foam brush and mix between coats with a paint paddle on a cordless drill. Mixing, mixing mixing the mag paint is key. Also, sand in between coats with 220 grit paper in a flat holder, especially after the last coat. Whatever you do, don't use a roller for Mag Paint. ..................................
Now on to this stuff. Rollers are fast, but no matter what kind and what price, they will always leave an orange peel finish on any surface. Sure, a 6" high density foam roller will leave the least orange peel, but it's still orange peel. An orange peel surface on a chalkboard is difficult if not impossible to erase. An orange peel finish also makes for "speckled" chalk lines, where the chalk is sticking to the peaks and missing in the valleys, Spraying is the only way to get a really smooth finish, but is expensive and the spray versions of chalkboard paint are very thin, so 5 or 6 coats would be needed. Using this stuff I got a pretty smooth finish using a cheap 4" foam brush and put it on lightly making sure I didn't have any extra paint drops, pooling or ridging on surface. When dry. I rubbed it down lightly with fine steel wool followed by a tack cloth, then repeated the process 2 more times for 3 coats. p.s., the quality of the chalk you select matters. Cheap chalk will scratch and skip. Avoid Crayola. Look for Sargent Arts or Prang. Dustless chalk works fine, but its harder than regular chalk. Keep some regular soft colored chalk around for those "artsy" projects that tend to stay on the board until the next season, and use dustless for your grocery list and dentist appt time.
