Customer Questions & Answers

can't I buy just one roll ?

can't I buy just one roll ?
Asked by: Raya
The reason online products are sold by the case is for shipping purposes. In many instances, including this one with Rust-Oleum LeakSeal Self Fusing Silicone Tape , items must be shipped by case quantities. For this reason, when purchasing items online, they must be purchased in this way. We recommend checking at your local store for individual rolls.

I just had 5 attempts to fix a pinhole leak following the instructions every time. I have used the entire role and still have water now erupting either side of the tape. Do not bother using this product it is a waste of time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for emergencies, but don't expect to completly stop a leak on something over 50 psi, like a garden hose. This is a good item to have around for emergency repairs. There are a few requirements, the item must be round so you can evenly stretch the tape to make a good seal at the edges. The tape must be stretched tightly so the more rigid the item the better. The tape should be stretched pretty tight as it is wrapped, which is hard to do. Since the tape does not fuse to the pipe, the tighter the tape is stretched the better the seal between the tape and the pipe. The product instructions are a little misleading. 700 psi is listed prominently as one of the product features. Well, that's 700 psi "tensile strength", much different than sealing ability. To test, I cut a small hole in a plastic hose, wrapped with two layers of the tape and pressurized to about 30 psi. The repair held. I then raised to pressure to about 50 psi and air began to leak. The leak was a much lower rate than without the tape, but the tape could not seal to the hose and keep the air from leaking out the sides. You may be able to go to a higher pressure if this was done on a solid copper or pvc pipe so the tape could be stretched much tighter. It would be impossible to repair a garden hose with this tape as shown on the package since water service is about 100 psi and garden hoses are too flexible to wrap tightly. The tape is easily removed leaving no reside. This is important since the tape should be used for emergency repairs only and you will need to remove it to make the permanent repair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool tape. Once this tape sticks to itself, it is all over. If you thought plastic wrap was bad, watch out. But that is why this works. As you wrap it around the leak, it joins with itself to create a large seal. I was successful in sealing small water and air leaks on systems under 100 psi. It had some trouble when the radius dramatically changed at the point of the leak, but I didn't expect it to work there. It sealed around sharp cornered hex sections, as used in air lines. It is also useful for building up a tube or cable before going into an enclosure for weather proofing. We now have a large roll of this at work for various uses. Great stuff to have around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flexible, Durable And Temporary Fix This is a very flexible adhesive tape that works good if you pull the tape real tight around the object you are trying to seal. I used this on two items that were leaking. My hose which had a pin hole and the tape took a lot longer to seal than fixing my copper pipe. The reason why is because hoses are flexible and the copper pipe is hard and stable. The tape is holding up fine on my copper pipe and with standing the cold water going through the pipe without leaking. I recommend it for pipes and hard surface materials but flexible surface like a hose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just in Time We have a very minor crack in the pvc pipe under the kitchen sink. This tape works great, I mean Great! Very easy to install, just wrap above and below and around the leak, give it a little extra tug and cut. It seals and there is no more leak. I did have another brand of tape that I used to hold back a leak and it was not as effective as this one. I am very impressed. Nothing could be easier - short of having a live-in plumber that is. I highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work for me. I used it to try and seal a minor leak, where the hot water boiler's 3/4" copper outflow pipe joins a 3/4" PVC pipe. They join with a threaded connection. I turned the water off & drained the system. I dried off the pipes & thoroughly cleaned all surfaces on both pipes in the target area. I used the entire roll of LeakSeal tape, 1/2 overlapping the tape with each rotation around the pipe. After I turned the water back on, I saw the water still leaking out, from around the tape.
