Answer:
Great question. The products are very similar and can be interchanged. However, the Rust-Oleum Automotive Rust Reformer Spray has a few different additives and properties that are designed more specifically for automotive applications as compared to the Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Rust Reformer Spray.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does a good job. Not perfect. permanent coverage is not as good as it could be. Based on the limited products on the market for this purpose I will buy this until something better comes along. October 25, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rustoleum works The spray paint was easy to control. Using a cardboard backstop , my wrought iron hand rail looks like new. October 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by okay Spray paint did not come out smooth and even. What I wanted cover was a two file drawer filing cabinet. The cabinet was not that rusty just a few spots but thought be safe cover the entire cabinet. I ask the paint sales guy if one can would work he said yes more then enough to cover the entire filing cabinet. Nope ended up buying a second can to finish painting the outside of the two drawer file cabinet. I didn't know I had to take a picture. You can see all clumps that came out of the can. Yes, I did shake it well. August 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Could be better The product did not not spray evenly because it spatered. July 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good for stopping surface rust from progressing. given a piece of iron or steel with a light coat of surface rust on it, it converts the rust to a black coating while it puts a clear coat over the metal to prevent further rust. don't try to use it on severe, flaky rust.
