Customer Questions & Answers

Can you use this product on birdbaths?

Asked by: gardenlover
I use this on my bird bath. The Rust-Oleum comment is correct. If it is in contact with water constantly then it will start to peel. My first coat lasted about 4-5 years before it started showing signs of peeling. I just re-coated it today for the second time. Be sure to wait the 24 hours for it to cure before adding water.

Rust-Oleum LeakSeal is not recommended for water immersion due to the fact that the product will not hold up and peel. Our products are considered nontoxic once they're cured.

this can work on the inside of a leaky gutter that is dripping? Assume it would need to be completely dry before application?
Asked by: haworth
It does need to be dry before applying Rust-Oleum LeakSeal Flexible Rubber Coating. It may be best to try using the coating on the outside of the gutter, rather than the inside. This will ensure best performance of the product.

I have several areas on the bottom track of an above ground pool. It is surface rust and I was wondering if I could use this product to avoid rusting through and causing leaks and possible collapse. Please advise ASAP. Thank you.
Asked by: Gwyn
You will need to get rid of as much rust as you can. Then spray this with a good coat. Should help stop or slow the rust.

12 oz. LeakSeal White Spray is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Impressed I was looking for a QUICK, but semi-permanent fix for a few gutter leaks where they intersect at an angle. The interior of the gutter is very difficult (nearly impossible) to access because porch screening is affixed to the upper inside lip of the gutter, so I was hoping that an exterior rubberized coating would fix the leak. My gutters are white, so I figured this product would blend well (which it did). I applied it to a dry surface, with outdoor temperatures in the upper 70’s. I allowed 45 minutes between a first and second coat, and it did not rain for at least 24 hours after the final application. I applied the product from a distance of about 8” – 10” to try to avoid over spray onto nearby screening. After waiting 48 hours, I gave it a “leak test” with the garden hose pouring water into my gutter, and there were still a few drips coming from the location where the gutters meet. Perhaps I will get better results after applying yet another (third) coating, but right now, I’m reluctant to vouch that this product will do what it says after applying 2 coats. I caution users to be aware that the way this spray applies, bears little resemblance to that of most regular paint sprays (similarly packaged in an aerosol container) – the contents left a watery drip on the surface (although it does dry to a semi-smooth coating) and the nozzle also “spit” contents in small gobs, in almost every direction (even back into my face and hair). Don’t be lulled into complacency, even for a small touch-up. If there is anything nearby that could be defaced, strongly consider covering or masking the location, and dress accordingly (hat, rubber gloves, etc.). This is not a water-based product, so clean-up could be tedious (or in the case of fabrics, possibly ruin them). I would have been more accepting of the messy application process, if the sealer had worked more effectively with the initial two coat application.

I was sold this product to fix a very small hole in a PVC irrigation pipe. "Wrap it with tape, & then spray it on. It's just like a cast for a broken arm, where the tape gets sealed" WRONG! There was no water supply going thru the pipe, as it hadn't been used for months. However, the day after spraying the pipe, there were 2 holes where water was seeping thru, probably from water left in the pipe. When I returned to Home Depot, I spoke with a more educated employee. As I suspected, there is no "quick fix" to a hole in a pressurized situation. I have to cut the pipe & install a joiner piece. I'm glad I could return this product. I hope it works for more appropriate situations

It had started rusting through the plastic coating on it in several areas and I was shocked to find out it was over $150 for a replacement. When I saw this, I thought it might do the trick. It did exactly what I hoped for... I can't speak to longevity yet as I just painted the rack a couple weeks ago. It did come through the first wash or two okay. Works good for the right situation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust-oleum Leak Seal Rust-oleum offers a flexible rubber coating in a spray on can. This seals cracks and leaks on a variety of products including concrete providing a water tight and flexible seal. Be sure to read instructions to prepar surfaces correctly. Used the seal product on concrete around pool and skimmer cover. Easier and cheaper than replacing the concrete. Cures to touch in 2 hours and complete cure is around 24 hours. Comes in a variety of colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more leaks I could not really be more pleased. Over the past few months I've noticed part of my gutter downspout and corner tends to leak after or during a rain storm from spots where they shouldn't be dropping water from. So I snagged some leak seal, after a couple of dry days I got up on the ladder, cleaned the location of the leak and sprayed it on. It went on fast, but I was surprised to see bubbles in the application given the add suggests it goes on smoothly. Thinking, okay it will dry without bubbles I left it. Nope... bubbles hardened and I put a second coat on just to make sure none of those bubbles gives me a leak. (I should mention they are really small bubbles, smaller than course salt size.) But now for the real result, it rained and no more leaks! Very pleased. It is paintable so if my color is not quite right I can paint it, but looks good to me.

While it does seal things up, it doesn't always do it on the first try and while you're using it prepare for it to get all over the place. On you and on almost everything else. Even when I was prepared for it the second time I used it, it still got it on about 60% of stuff I didn't want it on, including me.

Did not spray even at all, some areas thick some thin. Then when dry it pealed up off of fresh fiberglass! When masked off with painters tape the edges were not uniform. After first use water trapped under and it lifted right of the surface.
