The Rust-Oleum Black Gloss Protective Enamel Paint is the best thing for coating bare steel. I’m constructing a large Solar Panel Array and needed to apply a good long lasting rust preventive to the steel mount / post. After degreasing the bare metal I applied three coats with a compressor driven spray gun. I sprayed the paint straight out of the can with no thinning. The paint sprayed on great and dried quickly. This is my first mount so naturally I have to make changes to the build as I go. I needed to do some welding to one of the parts so I needed to grind down to bare metal. This Rust-Oleum Black Gloss Protective Enamel is a very thick, tough Coating, the three layers of spray dried to a thickness of approximately four or five pieces of notebook paper. This stuff was actually quite tough to grind down to a bare metal. I’m very impressed with this paint, am looking to get about twenty years out of it and it looks like that won’t be a problem.

I used this product on my weathered Black screen patio doors and my weathered Black security bars and my windows. I was skeptical about the finish as I was rolling it on, but I ended up really liking the glossy finish. It looks much better than the flat Black finish that was on the surfaces before. The only thing that I didn't like is how that paint starts to form a web like material on the roller as I was working, but it comes off by itself and dissolves into the air as you work. I will definitely purchase the product again in the future.

I used this to repaint my metal outdoor railings. Came out very nice. Dries smooth, no paint brush marks.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by reddie44 Never again - doesn't adhere, requires filtering because of particulates in a new can
This is the worst oil paint that I've ever used. I hoped to use this for painting trim and possibly refinishing a few pieces of outdoor furniture. The paint doesn't stick to clean and well-primed wood and starts to delaminate when I sand after it's dried for 48 hours. It was not laid on too thick so it's not a problem in the application. Furthermore, this product has particulates in it in a brand new can which requires that I strain it to get a finish that doesn't look horrible. I would have assumed there was an issue with the particular can that I bought but I have large particles in both the black and white colors of oil paint. I will never buy this product again and I'm heading back to the store for stripper to remove it and start again. What an expensive mistake to buy Rustoleum oil paint. Never again.

I watched a friend use this to paint the frame of a Jeep that he was restoring. Several months later, the finish still looks the same. You cannot beat this paint for the price and ease of use, plain and simple. I'm not advocating painting a car body with it, but it is perfect for a frame, or iron gate, patio furniture, or things of that nature.

I used this particular paint to paint the front door of my home . it leaves a nice gloss finish and seems to be self-leveling as I put the door on sawhorses to paint it !
I would recommend it!

Had a metal gate that was rusted up pretty badly. Took it off sanded it down and applied two, light coats of this paint on it. That was a year ago and the gate still looks new like the day it was installed.
