Answer:
I don't recommend using only one kit for 53 sq ft. It barely comes with enough base coat. And you need a thick base to cover the old counter.

Answer:
That will be tough. The kit limitation is the top coat. You will be just able to cover 50 sq ft. There is plenty of glue and chips. I don't think you can squeeze 53 ft coverage. You don't seem to be able to buy the top coat separate. I hope Rustoleum is reading this...

Answer:
The glue and granite chips are more than enough and will cover just fine. The seal coat may not be enough to cover. I was unable to get more seal coat without buying a second kit. The coverage seems to be set by the amount of seal coat you get.

Answer:
Yes. The glue holds the rock chips very well. Don't be afraid to go heavy on the chips. I recommend tape on the wall to keep the glue where you want it. The cover coat tends to run so go light and apply the top coat several times as you top coat the counters.

Answer:
Absolutely. There are directions in the video for handling the backsplash. The seal coat tends to run so apply lightly, then apply again after a bit. Follow the directions for best results.

We would not advise using Countertop Transformations on your back splash. Countertop Transformations is mean to be applied to laminate and wood surfaces.

Answer:
Yes, wood surface is good. No, water will NOT penetrate the epoxy after it dries. I ran the epoxy top coat around inside my tap holes for the sink as it seals the wood very well. Do sand the wood well and make sure you remove ALL the dust. Vacuum the dust off ALL surfaces before you apply the adhesive coat. The wood dust gets into everything.

Answer:
Iggy - Countertop Transformations can be used on wood surfaces, and the top coat will not allow for water penetration. However just like any countertop surface water or other liquids should not be left spilled on the surface.

We have young children knocking into the counter edges regularly. Does it stand up over time to uses such as cooking, kids school projects, playdough, cookie cutters, being hit on edges by random objects such as scooters, balls, etc.?

We have had our counter-tops finished for about half a year so far. I am amazed. Coffee spills just wipe up. Egg white, sugar crystals and other spills clean up with no marks. We haven't abraded a corner or chipped the surface yet. We have over filled the coffee maker twice now and no surface damage at all. I think good!

Large Java Stone Countertop Kit (Covers 50 sq. ft.)-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! This product is amazing! I just bought a house that has green formica countertops and they had to go! I saw this product and decided to give it a try. The directions were very easy to follow, and the process was pretty simple. Make sure you sand the decorative chips down really well, so you have a smooth finish. I have a lot of countertop space and still had plenty of supplies left over. Put the base coat and chips on very thick for great coverage...you won't run out of the supplies! :) Can't wait to do my bathrooms!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from use caution when patching We went from a light to dark countertop, so when it came time to sand smooth, there ended up being lighter spots that showed through the base coat. We touched up with the base coat and chips as the directions instructed, but when we sanded down again, it looked very splotchy. We contacted Rust-oleum and they sent us more adhesive base coat, chips, and wetting agent--free of charge. We completely redid the whole process on all the counters and it looked much better. Use caution when sanding; you don't want to sand down too much, otherwise you'll have the bare countertop show through underneath. And patch sparingly, otherwise it can end up looking blotchy, especially if the chips don't adhere evenly on that coat. Word to the wise: the sealing top coat is not overly thick, so your surface will only be as smooth as you sand it. Overall, it looks much better than what we started out with, so it is a worthwhile (and inexpensive) investment. And Rust-oleum really stands behind their product, so if you have any concerns or issues, call them and they will be more than willing to help you resolve them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Produce for Old Counter Tops As a Realtor, I see a lot of old counter tops which are scratched or green. It is very expensive to completely replace so I went online at homedepot.com and found this product that allows you to paint the counter tops. I read the reviews and dec'd to purchase it for my client. The results were amazing! The color was beautiful and I have shown the photos to my home inspector and others in real estate. They had never heard of the product and plan on telling their clients!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent results and very doable! We used the java stone color. Our countertops have straight edges and a tile backsplash so we had to be extra careful. We ended up messing it up the first time so ended up ordering another kit and redoing it. We figured we were still money ahead over replacing the countertop! The straight edges turned out great and we used dark caulk to make a decent transition to the tile backsplash with good results. We were quite pleased !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The craziest DIY Project we've ever done! If done correctly this is a great product when completed, but it was the most unusual DIY we've ever done. You have to follow the directions carefully. My complaint would be there is not enough base coat with the kit. It would be nice to roll on an initial base coat, let it dry then add the thick coat with the chips. This would ensure better coverage of the original countertop. There was more than enough chips included in the kit and plenty of top coat, but not enough base coat and not enough wetting solution. Also the diamond embedded tool wore out before the project was completed. We had to purchase additional sanding sponges. Also as you spread the chips they will go everywhere! Be sure to cover things up and vacuum often.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works but take care The final result was not too bad. Brush strokes do show so have good light to see (Due to over sanding repairs, I was working at 1 am!) This is a fair amount of work but the results are great. Expect to buy an extra top coat can as the surface is a bit sparse. You cannot put too much top coat on as it blobs and leaves roller marks. I will be recoating the surface after it dries. Your kitchen is out of service at least 4 days (2 for prep, two for drying)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Have to follow the instructions EXACTLY. Half of our kitchen countertops came out great after we got the hang of the process. The other half looks awful and we will need to redo.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A little disappointed The process started out good. Just as others described, a little time consuming, but with patience can really transform an old or ugly counter top into a much prettier one. The problem came in the "after". It took much longer to dry than advertised. When it finally did, we were pretty happy. A week later we put all the stuff back on(figureing we'd give it extra time since it took so long to dry) The next day we found a lighter spot from where some water had been sitting . It's been almost two weeks, and it's still there. We're trying to sell our house and we're worried about people noticing. We've already invested the hundreds it took to buy this, so now we're stuck!
