My wife and I re-did our cabinets and countertops with Rustoleum transformations. The cabinets, which we did first, turned out beautifully. The countertops were somewhat underwhelming. We have several spots with tiny specks that were not covered completely with basecoat/chips and you can definitely see all of the places where we touched up.
Part of this is probably due to our not putting the base coat on thick enough (when you think it's thick enough, put more on!) because we were afraid of running out. The other part of this is the product - Onyx is unforgiving. It will show every tiny imperfection. I feel that if we had gone with say, charcoal, it would have looked better. We may try to redo our countertops with another small kit to hopefully gain a more even finish.
All of that being said, our countertops look way better than they did before and if you don't look too closely, you can't even notice the imperfections.

So, Onyx is the hardest color. Bottom line. I had a lot of countertop space and we made the mistake of doing the basecoat on ALL the counters then lighting doing step 2 which is the spray then doing step 3 which is the chips. We should have thought this through better and completed one section of countertop at a time (we had 4). With that said- touch ups had to be made- and we followed the instructions. You could tell EXACTLY where the touchups were. I called Rustoleum and they stood behind their product and after faxing them my reciepts they sent me more product to redo my countertop.
Now are they FLAWLESS???? No. If you dont have perfect lighting, you will not easily be able to see where some clear coats are thicker than others, but it was our first time, it's our first house, and bottom line- I didn't pay $1500 for laminate countertops with seams. Instead I paid $400 for coutnertops w/o laminate and $500 for two kits and I am happy.
Makes one heck of a mess, but it's kind of fun at the same time. Lay down plastic, follow the instructions, Have a game plan, and think about a plan of execution and you'll be fine.

This is a good product. it offers an inexpensive way to make old outdated countertops look brand new. i was pleased with the final result. the only complaint i could have is that the base coat material ran a little short. it needs a thick coat but we were worried we wouldnt have enough so that led us to put it on a little to thin which resulted in the chips not sticking good enough in some areas. but we ended up having just enough so i thought it was a very good decision to go with this product.

We've tried the Rust-Oleum countertop product that first came out and was far more inexpensive. It failed with flying colors. Scratched very easily and didn't hold up for more than a few months. I would be hesitant to trust this product on a countertop for the price it would make more sense to me just installing a new countertop of some sort: formica, tile, factory 2 u...

2 years later and our countertops look great! Prep work is key (true for any painting project). I went slowly, took my time, and allowed plenty of time between coats. Allowed one full week for project and remain beyond pleased with the results. Even pros have complimented the finished project!

We had ugly Formica countertops and couldn't afford new ones for a few years. I bought this product and followed the directions to the letter. I thought it would be a little more sparkly than it turned out. Overall I love the new look. Make sure you check the time, best to do over a weekend.
