I have read these reviews with interest and feel compelled to say that I think there are a few things going on here: Possibly a bad batch of spray mechanisms, old product (store not moving enough causing settling or separation) damage to the cans in shipping or operator error. I have personally NEVER had a single bad can that only sprays intermittently or runs out of propellant or doesn't produce the desired hammered effect. That is from my experience through purchasing well over 100 of these over the years in all of the various can styles and colors ever since it came out and that goes back many years probably into the late 90's or early 2000's. The only problems I have EVER had are not getting the hammered look as significantly as I would like but the problem was ME in that I had not shaken the can long enough, being impatient to get to work *whistles innocently*. Shake, shake, shake then test out on a spot first to make sure you are happy with the look. I love the hammered and metallic looks and use it every year to freshen up outdoor decor. I have brought back rusty bird feeders, plastic deck pots (why I am here looking at the Rosemary color today), metal bird figures on top of my tomato obelisks, outdoor furniture, dryer vent covers, furnace vent hood, carriage door style garage door strap trim, air conditioner units and much more. I have used this throughout my kids school careers and used it in December for a sculpture final for my now senior in college. We painted pvc pipe that we cut, heated to flatten and reform into the 8' long sculpture shown below and it made the coolest effects by overspraying different colors while wet giving a faded ombre look with a lot of depth. Sadly the photo does not do it justice. I really like this spray head myself. If you are careful you can rotate the spray tip so you can change the spray pattern from horizontal to vertical without having to tilt the can at weird angles. I can get a super precise spray pattern without overspray problems as well. If I use a conventional can I attach a trigger spray head because I get hand fatigue but I find this spray head eliminates that issue completely which means I don't have to pass up the paint choices in this product line. This stuff works wonderfully but you have to be patient and practice a bit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had to return 6 different cans This paint or the can is not nearly perfected. After 6 trips to HD, I gave up and went with a different idea on what kind of paint to use. The first time I tried it I shook it vigorously for 3 minutes. It spurted and just hissed out propellent. The subsequent times I shook at least 10 minutes thinking it had clumped up in the can. To no avail did it ever give more than a spurt and quit. I emailed Rustoleum to see what the problem is and should hear back from them in the next week or so. I am truly disappointed this didn't work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst can design Purchased 8 cans of this paint. 1st can sprayed for 5 seconds then turned to propellant only. Tried 2nd can only to have the same problem. 3rd wouldn't spray at all. Don't waste your time with this paint. Should have checked other reviews prior to purchasing this type. I will be returning them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from faulty can design as mentioned by others it will spray only propellant sometimes..just a note to help others with this problem: turn the can upside down and it will spray! horrible can but the color i needed is only available in this can so i HAD to make them work. the trigger actuator is not good sometimes have to move it sideways or press in different places to get it to spray properly

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Design We have purchased 4 cans of hammered black & bronze and get to spray for a couple of minutes or less then the trigger malfunctions and we're left with an unusable can of paint. We bought the first 2 cans from Home Depot & both failed. I didn't return as HD is 20 miles away. Thought maybe a batch problem so bought another can from our local Hardware store. Same problem. Then tried our local BiMart store....yup, failed again. It gives a nice paint finish when it works but $25.00 later we couldn't even cover more than a couple of door hinges & latches leaving our projects unfinished. I'm going to let Rustoleum know as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wont spray I generally like Rust-Oleum products but this is the second time I've tried to use the Hammered paint and had problems. The first time the trigger was broken when I got it home. It very flimsy. And maybe someone returned it this way. The second time it sprayed for about 20 seconds then would only spray propellant. I assume the paint tube fell off because I could get paint out with the can upside down. No way to try to paint. Biggest problem is I live 50 miles from Home depot so it's $20.00 in gas to exchange the paint. I won't buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the metallic Rosemary hammered color I didn't have any of the spray issues a few others mentioned. Used on two projects: exterior of a large old cement tub sink and rusted metal stand in garage and plastic light switch plates. The hammered look was more evident on the smaller switch plate -possibly because it was laid flat to paint? Sophisticated color, not too brassy or dark. I'm checking now with the company to see if safe for interior of metal bird bath both in durability and eco-friendliness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How to spray- don't follow the directions When I used this paint it looked nice but it did not match the top of the can, much less texture or "hammered" look. I then discovered by chance that the way to get the hammered look was to put on the paint super thick about 2-4" from the surface (practically dripping) to get the textured look. This is not what the directions say and its everything you been told not to do when spray painting. Unfortunately, I discovered this too late after all my patio furniture was already painted.
