1/2 in. Hammer Drill is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid tool In the middle of trying to drill some brick (with a non-hammer 3/4" corded drill and masonry bit), and getting nowhere, I remembered that I had always wanted a hammer drill! Down to the Depot and got this model, choosing it over the One+ cordless for heavier duty (but still generally casual) work. Completely satisfied. Went through the brick like butter. Very solid feeling. Great torque. Not sure why people are complaining about the chuck -- it's a regular keyed chuck. Replace it with a keyless if you want. Would definitely purchase again, though I don't expect to need to for a long time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chuck problem. Mine had problems after about 1-2 months of on/off use. the drill bits started slipping and the chuck was not tightening at all. After a few more uses, the chuch seized and could not be tightened or loosened anymore. As far as customer service is concerned, Home Depot did not hesitate to replace it, after I had contacted Ryobi through their website and did not hear from them...except for the automated e-mail reply saying they received my message and will get back to me, well it has been over a month now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I don't know how anyone can give this Ryobi tool a good review. I bought this last spring to hang a couple of TV's at my folks beach cottage. It required 5 holes into hardened block for each TV. I could tell already this wasn't going to last. I put a laminate floor in my home next project, and needed to install 5 transition strips. This amounted to a total of about 40 holes in the concrete floor so I could insert wooden dowels and screw the transition strips in. So, after about 50 holes, here's the junk tool story. The chuck unscrewed itself once, which took me a little while to figure out what was going on, because it wouldn't close anymore. Got that straightened out finally. The switch to turn the hammer action on and off is frozen. I never even used the switch, so no idea why it's locked. The chuck barely works now, so it's extremely hard to open and close. It really needs to be replaced but the chuck is worth more than the tool at this point, so why bother? The hammering action is feeble. Although the tool did get to the end of both projects, it's spent in less than 1-year. I suppose I could complain to Ryobi for a replacement drill, but why? I don't want another unreliable piece of junk. The only consolation was the $70 I spent on the tool was cheaper than hiring someone, and probably about the same as renting one over a couple of projects. I generally no better, because you get what you pay for. Now I have to buy another for my tool box. Buy once and pay a bit more. Buy twice and spend a lot more. I would say Ryobi is a Harry Home Owner tool, but I wouldn't want to insult the Harry's in this world. Do yourself a favor, and research before you buy, and never buy tools on price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well. The power of the Drill and Hammer function get the job done. I do not drill in concrete all day long, but when I need to, this tool has stepped up to the challenge. The power is perfect for mixing grout, thinset and mortar. This drill was critial to installing bathroom, plumbing fictures and vanity in porcelain tile. See image below.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Im not drilliing through concrete with a 60 dollar drill, so with that, for mixing very hard mixes of mortar and tile cement and tough 5g buckets of drywall mud, this thing goes through it like nothing. I had to replace the motor in my dewalt 18v drill after using it for these tasks (over 2 years) which I knew each time I did it was bad... The only thing is that the handle broke on this ryobi after I tried tightening it and apparently over tightned it, cheap handle!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy a RYOBI I bought this drill last year and got good performance out of it for one year before it broke. While the drill was still under warranty, the trigger burned out and the drill stopped working. I took it to the only single local RYOBI certified repair shop in Toronto and it has been there for 6 months so far with no end in sight. It requires a new part which has been on a container ship in the Atlantic for months and will then need to be shipped through the US (by donkey no doubt) before it arrives in Canada. I hound the repair shop every month or so and borrow a friends Dewalt drill when I need one - which is a really great drill by the way.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk -- you get what you pay for The thing started smoking with a bit of load. Now sparks coming from back and I can either replace brushes or throw in the garbage.
