I bought this router in a 3 base kit and returned it one week later. The power of the router is very low and struggles to make cuts in hard wood and because the motor housing is made of plastic as the motor warms up fine adjustment is almost impossible to make. Also the lack of a 1/2in collet restricts the amount of bits that can be used with this system. If you can afford to get a router with a metal body and base then do it, you may spend a little more money but it is well worth it in the long run and far less frustrating. In my opinion Porter cable and Dewalt make the best routers you can buy.

This is a great little router for the DIY'er. I've used this router against 1" hardwood as well as 3/4" plywood with minimal RPM reduction under full load.

Got this router for father's day last year, and it is a good little router. If I were doing production work, I would get something with an alloy motor body and more HP but this router does a great job at what it is designed for. Last month I made some furniture for my 2 year old son and so I made a template to trim the parts to their final size using a template cutting bit and it was a snap. Then I used a round over bit on the edges. I even used a 3/4" bit to cut dadoes and this router took care of the job with no problems. Yeah the motor body got a little warm, but that was after 30 min. of routing. It can only use 1/4" shank bits, but if your bit is sharp it will produce clean cuts, so I wouldn't shy away because of this. Oh and there are plenty of bits out there for this router, I have 27:) I would say the only cons are it is a lightweight so I would not put it in a table to make door panels, and the depth adjustment knob sticks a little when dropping your bit down to trim edges.

Purchased this router to install flush mounted wood vents in my wood floors to replace the rather ugly metal vents. The hardest part was measuring correctly so that the new vents would fit without large or uneven spaces between the vents and the floor. Ryobi router worked extremely well, powerful enough to cut through 3/4" oak in 2 passes. Only problem I had was that the guide bearing on the router bit rode up the bit shaft at one point causing the bit to track off its straight line. Router works great, but be advised that it throws a huge amount of sawdust over a large area. Only a problem if you're working inside your house, as I was.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Will Nice little router for the price!
I have three routers at home in New Mexico but, of course, I neglected to bring any of them with me to Utah to work on my girlfriend's art studio. I needed to install two new, doors in the studio and wanted to route the hinge recesses in the doors and jambs, so I ordered this sweet little Ryobi router.
I had a little trouble getting the depth of cut exactly right because this fixed base router is different in design from my home routers. After a few test cuts, it did all I asked of it. I really love the LED lights in the base which make it very easy to see the cut as it progresses. At the low price I didn't expect much, but this little 1/4" router surpassed all my expectations. That, I guess, would be my only criticism: it only accepts 1/4" shank router bits. All in all, an excellent tool for the money.

This router is ok, but not nearly as good as the last Ryobi I had, due to the adjusting mechanism. I don't care for this design at all but it's all they offer now. My other one was stolen but it had a band adjuster around the body and an adjustment measurement around the band with a huge lock. Just unlock it and turn the dial to add or subtract height. This one is not nearly as easy or accurate and it has a lot of looseness in it during the adjustment, making it less accurate, or harder and time consuming to adjust.
