Customer Reviews

1.5-Amp Fixed Base Router is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected. Purchased this router to install flush mounted wood vents in my wood floors to replace the rather ugly metal vents. The hardest part was measuring correctly so that the new vents would fit without large or uneven spaces between the vents and the floor. Ryobi router worked extremely well, powerful enough to cut through 3/4" oak in 2 passes. Only problem I had was that the guide bearing on the router bit rode up the bit shaft at one point causing the bit to track off its straight line. Router works great, but be advised that it throws a huge amount of sawdust over a large area. Only a problem if you're working inside your house, as I was.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great router for beginners and DIYer's Got this router for father's day last year, and it is a good little router. If I were doing production work, I would get something with an alloy motor body and more HP but this router does a great job at what it is designed for. Last month I made some furniture for my 2 year old son and so I made a template to trim the parts to their final size using a template cutting bit and it was a snap. Then I used a round over bit on the edges. I even used a 3/4" bit to cut dadoes and this router took care of the job with no problems. Yeah the motor body got a little warm, but that was after 30 min. of routing. It can only use 1/4" shank bits, but if your bit is sharp it will produce clean cuts, so I wouldn't shy away because of this. Oh and there are plenty of bits out there for this router, I have 27:) I would say the only cons are it is a lightweight so I would not put it in a table to make door panels, and the depth adjustment knob sticks a little when dropping your bit down to trim edges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little router for the price! I have three routers at home in New Mexico but, of course, I neglected to bring any of them with me to Utah to work on my girlfriend's art studio. I needed to install two new, doors in the studio and wanted to route the hinge recesses in the doors and jambs, so I ordered this sweet little Ryobi router. I had a little trouble getting the depth of cut exactly right because this fixed base router is different in design from my home routers. After a few test cuts, it did all I asked of it. I really love the LED lights in the base which make it very easy to see the cut as it progresses. At the low price I didn't expect much, but this little 1/4" router surpassed all my expectations. That, I guess, would be my only criticism: it only accepts 1/4" shank router bits. All in all, an excellent tool for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good first router Great as a first router. Heavy design, you'll need strong forearms to keep this baby steady. It's durable so far, had it for four month and I have used it on a bunch of different jobs. Has some great power too, more than I really need at this point as a newer DIYer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great router for price I bought this router a couple of weeks ago. so far I am very pleased with my purchase. The wood chip guard and the LED lights make it very easy to see the bit and the work piece. The light weight design makes it easy to do hand held routing. As far as in the table it is great. I made a homemade table and it is very easy to adjust the height by using a racheting screwdriver with a socket. The bit change is also very easy. The router is all put together ready to go in the handy carrying case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Router for the Price I had a craftsman router that was old but worked well until it broke and Sears no longer sells the part to fix it. So since I'm over Sears and Craftsman tools altogether I decided to check Home Depot for a cheap router that I could use to really learn wood working. So I bought this router based on review of others. So far I'm very happy with the router. I Have tore through plenty of hard wood all ready, almost all my projects are hardwood and this router is able to handle the job. The router does not loose any power while making 1/2" Deep cuts through Red Oak. Just make sure you have sharp bits. The only bad thing I can say about this router is that the base Clamp needed some fine tuning to allow the router's fine adjustment knob to work well and actually adjust the router without difficulty but to not allow the router to move while clamped. As long as you check this and make any necessary tweeks to the base clamp I believe you will be happy with this router weather you are a beginner or someone who is looking for a router that can handle the job without breaking the bank.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Feature quality has been lowered. This router is ok, but not nearly as good as the last Ryobi I had, due to the adjusting mechanism. I don't care for this design at all but it's all they offer now. My other one was stolen but it had a band adjuster around the body and an adjustment measurement around the band with a huge lock. Just unlock it and turn the dial to add or subtract height. This one is not nearly as easy or accurate and it has a lot of looseness in it during the adjustment, making it less accurate, or harder and time consuming to adjust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light duty router This is a good router for DIY and light woodworking. If you plan to turn large bits or plunge bit-deep into oak, then spend more money and get yourself a porter cable. But for occasional projects, the Ryobi is easy to use and holds its depth pretty well.
