11 Amp Heat Gun HG500QP-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good heat gun with variable heat control This heat gun replaces a 17 year old heat gun that finally bit the dust. It is primarily being used for stripping paint from wood trim in a 100+ year old house. I'm using this for personal projects, not commercial. My previous gun was a basic dual temperature and was an automotive tool brand. The low setting typically didn't do the job or softened the paint too slowly. The high setting required diligence to avoid burning the wood or vaporizing the paint. Overall, I'm pleased with the Ryobi. Pros: Variable temperature setting: This give me more control over the temperature depending on the number of layers of paint, etc. It has made it much easier to strip the woodwork in my house. Comfort/handle: This gun is more comfortable in my hand than my previous heat gun. Its also better insulated, so it doesn't vibrate as much or get as warm as my old one. Price: You can spend a lot more and a little bit less for a heat gun. This was a decent mid-range price. Cons: Size/weight: The Ryobi is a bit larger and heavier than my old gun, making it a little more unwieldy, especially when using it for longer periods of time. As stated above, the trade-off is better comfort. Temperature indicators:The temperature is indicated by a set of 4 lights, indicating temperatures of 200, 500, 800 and 1,050 degrees. The temperature is actually controlled by a circular dial, which is integrated in to the body of the gun. The dial is ribbed but has no printed markings. As you turn the dial, it 'clicks' into a position. Unfortunately there are many more clicks in the dial than there are temperature indicator lights. I haven't tested the actual temperature at various points on the dial, but assume the temp can be adjusted BETWEEN the temperatures listed above. This makes it hard to know exactly what temperature you've chosen in a particular circumstance. I plan to add markings to the dial to help keep better track of temps that work best for me. Note: The HG500QP does not come with any nozzle attachments. If you need/want the extra attachments, buy the HG500 instead. I find the wedge shaped attachment that focuses airflow into a narrow line is beneficial. Since I already had one from my previous gun I opted to save $20 instead of buying the HG500, with its extras. I purchased this towards the end of a project. I've only used it about 3-4 hours, so I can't speak to it's longevity. At this point though, it has worked well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Died. Worked ok until it died. Out of warranty when it did. Given the price, I would have been better off buying something cheaper as I really didn't use all the different heat settings.
