Rated 2.6 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad batteries spoil the stew Same drum as all the other victims on this site. The 12 V drill itself i like quite a bit. I am a cabinet maker and wanted something lightweight for drilling and screwing with one hand. However, both batteries pooped out within about six months of light use. I was so angry that I contacted Ryobi directly but ended up getting a total lukewarm, non-professional response from the tech rep. I worked up the courage to get one replacement battery but same outcome, can't hold a charge after only a few months. Fortunately, this drill is the only cordless Ryobi tool I own. I will erase that brand name permanently from my memory chip and stick with what has given me reliable service throughout the past years, for me that's Bosch and Dewalt. You get what you pay for, and sometimes less. July 31, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A GOOD PRODUCT GONE BAD Sadly, as so many other reviewers are reporting, there does seem to be a quality control issue with the Ryobi Lithium batteries. I bought the 12V drill as a set with case, charger, and two batteries. LOVE the drill. Have used it frequently with satisfaction because the light weight is less fatiguing and the size lets it fit into smaller spaces without sacrificing power ( I have used it even to drill through roofing metal). BUT, much too soon one of the batteries began registering "defective" when I tried to charge it. and replacing it is taking effort as the stores no longer seem to carry it. Now I'm seeing the same problem with the 18V batteries rapidly going "defective", even some of the NEW replacement ones I've bought. So am beginning to try DeWalt cordless tools as an alternative. Frustrating since I had built up an pretty significant set of the Ryobi 18V Plus one tools. August 28, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by My 5 year old batteries are better than the 1 year old I have been using my 12 volt kit for years. No complaints, except that the little saw kicks way harder than you'd expect. However, the batteries keep getting more and more expensive, and the quality has been going down. I can still run the driver off of any of them, but the circular saw only works with 3 of the batteries, and not for long. The battery marked "new in 2014" is already as bad as the originals. Got another one, as part of the driver-drill kit, yesterday, and it doesn't last much longer on the circular saw than the old ones do. Ryobi, if you want the same (or more) money, then deliver the same quality! That said, with my little hands & tendon problems, this is the only set that works for me. The 18V set, compact as it is, is already too massive. November 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Another unhappy consumer Thanks to all of the other reviews I did not make the same mistake and spend the $ to replace these poorly designed/manufactured batteries. I also agree the drill itself is great - lightweight, and with plenty of power to do small jobs WHEN YOU HAVE A WORKING BATTERY. However, the batteries failed to hold a charge after a few months, then registered as "defective" on the charger as everyone else has stated. I bought an 18-V Drillmaster from Harbor Freight for half as much money as a single one of these replacement batteries. But it is large and unwieldy for someone with arthritis as I have, so I guess you just can't win. October 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not worth the money I have had the 12 volt battery stop working after about two years. I bought another high dollar battery and again it went defective. I am not spending this kind of money again knowing it will not last very long. I will buy a different brand first. January 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Irresponsible to continue selling these The batteries are a complete let down. After no more than a dozen uses in a year the battery shows up as defective and its almost the same expense to buy an entire drill set than to get the battery alone. This is one of the few products I've seen that gets mostly negative reviews yet still stays on the shelf at the store. Don't waste your money. November 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!!! I bought the 12v combo of Drill, Circular saw, Reciprocating Saw and flash light with 2 batteries and 1 charger for $99, batteries didn't last long. I bought this combo because of the price and the amount of times i was going to use. i used it no more than 10X (light duties only) in 1 year and the batteries went defective. The amount of power the batteries can hold it was not enough to power the Miter Saw and Jig saw even when I charge the batteries. So now i'm stuck with brand new never used Circular saw and Reciprocating saw. I refuse to buy new 12v batteries!!! So for fathers day, i bought myself 18v Drill and impact drill combo and bought the extra 2 year warranty....just in case. June 1, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by POOR QUALITY i bought the whole set 2 years ago (drill, battery and charger). I hardly used it since I always call a handyman to do some repair/s Just recently when I tried to use it, it didn't work (of course the battery's charge was consumed after years of inactivity). So when I tried to charge the battery I noticed the red and green lights kept on flashing, I thought it was just because I just charge the battery and after a couple of minutes or hours it will normalize the charging, but unfortunately it di not, the flashing of the red and green lights continued. This means that the battery was/is defective after just a couple of uses. I went to Home Depot to buy a new battery but unfortunately they don't have it in the store and the sales clerk said I can buy it online. After reading the reviews and checked the rating of only 2.4 star I felt good that it was not only me who experienced this bad situation. I am not buying any RYOBI products anymore. August 28, 2014
