It won't let me give a negative star review. I got the whole set, drill, circ saw, recip saw, flash light, and an impact driver. 4 batteries in total.
The circ saw never worked once. Two of the batteries were defective out of the box, and the other two are defective after only 6 months. It should be illegal to sell this garbage.

Thanks to all of the other reviews I did not make the same mistake and spend the $ to replace these poorly designed/manufactured batteries. I also agree the drill itself is great - lightweight, and with plenty of power to do small jobs WHEN YOU HAVE A WORKING BATTERY. However, the batteries failed to hold a charge after a few months, then registered as "defective" on the charger as everyone else has stated. I bought an 18-V Drillmaster from Harbor Freight for half as much money as a single one of these replacement batteries. But it is large and unwieldy for someone with arthritis as I have, so I guess you just can't win.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dot Worst Drill Purchase!!!
Bought this drill 6 months ago, used it a handful of times since the purchase date. I have literally charged the battery twice in that time. Went to charge it today and found I have a defective battery. Complete waste of money. Take a trip to Harbor Freight and buy something for cheaper that is higher quality than this piece of junk. If I could find the receipt I would try to get my money back .

Used with the impact hammer device. Couldn't even charge it after two years. Replacement battery is overpriced at $39. They should sell them at $10!
I have many Ryobi 18 volt tools and they perform reasonably well.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rich Ryobi 12V battery unreliable
Received the Auto hammer kit (tool, battery and charger) for Father's Day 2013 as a gift (no receipt). I used it initially a few times that year. This summer I wanted to use it again and the battery would not charge. Looked up warranty and it is for three years (receipt required). However, if the battery was part of a kit purchase NO receipt is required.
Took the kit to my local service center (currently Kingston, Ontario). They contacted Ryobi and were told that Ryobi would not honor the warranty because the tool was stamped 2009 as date of manufacture, and they applied three years from that date.
Disappointed no trust from a major company, as manufacture date has no bearing on purchase date. Things can stay unsold for years.
Since there is an obvious issue with the reliability and stability of this item (internet full of defective battery claims for new and seldom used batteries), Ryobi should replace every person's battery that had reported a problem with the 12V type.
I have several 18V Ryobi tools and I have no problems with those batteries.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JSPA My 5 year old batteries are better than the 1 year old
I have been using my 12 volt kit for years. No complaints, except that the little saw kicks way harder than you'd expect. However, the batteries keep getting more and more expensive, and the quality has been going down. I can still run the driver off of any of them, but the circular saw only works with 3 of the batteries, and not for long. The battery marked "new in 2014" is already as bad as the originals. Got another one, as part of the driver-drill kit, yesterday, and it doesn't last much longer on the circular saw than the old ones do. Ryobi, if you want the same (or more) money, then deliver the same quality! That said, with my little hands & tendon problems, this is the only set that works for me. The 18V set, compact as it is, is already too massive.
