Customer Questions & Answers

Why does it leak bar oil?

I haven't even used it yet. I put the oil in it that it came with and now it's sitting in a pool of oil.
Asked by: Ghoekstra
My suggestion is to take the bar and chain oil out of the oil tank because there is not a shut off valve and will still lubricate when off.

Is there a slip clutch on the drive

I have check the operators manual and there are no remedy's
Asked by: Berns
No slip clutch apparent. I have ground it to halt before and nothing gave in the transmission parts. Either you are running your chain way too loose which is causing it to slip off the drive sprocket, or you have a defective unit. I think you have a defective unit from your description of the intermittent slipping. I would suspect an electrical contact issue. If the driveline was broken, it wouldn't deliver any power when under load.

Ryobi chainsaw

whats the difference between the 2 chainsaws 40 volt - ?
Asked by: skulls
I have the 40volt and really like it. It works very well. It has the power I need to cut firewood, etc. I also have the string trimmer that uses the same battery.

for the home owner what is best to buy a 40 of 15 volt lithium ion battery

Asked by: irish
If you're like me, you will eventually need both. The 40v is good for heavier duty tools, like lawn mower and chainsaw. Smaller, hand tools usually only come with 18v batteries.

can i use the battary that comes with my mower on the chain saw? i read some where the kwh was different

i am looking to buy the trimmer blower chain saw and mower but was only going to buy the mower with batteries and planned to just use those batteries with the other items being that i would use the mower waaaay more then i would any of the other items... i am looking to purchase now so any help would be appreciated
Asked by: bddave
The Ryobi 40v batteries should be universal, I use the same one for the trimmer and chain saw. Some are rating for more or less watt hours of kilowatt hours but that just means the will last longer or shorter, same 40v system.

the question was for both the Ryobi 40v chainsaws - since thats the website page was on

the answer didn't answer the question about the Ryobi 40 v - 2 chainsaws being shown the question was for that - whats the dif between the 2 RYOBI 40 V chainsaws i read the data on it but it doesnt answer the question
Asked by: hionlife
I'm not sure what your question is, but I will try to address it anyway. As far as I know the only difference between the two 12 in. saws is that one comes with a battery/charger and the other doesn't. Now there is also the new 14 in. brushless, and the differences are numerous.

12 in. 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Chainsaw - Battery and Charger Not Included is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 136.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from joke weighs (with battery) as much as my small stihl, will cut limbs the size of your thumb, cuts like a saw with the chain on backwards. first use will probably be my last. Unit looks nice though, packing was good, directions good, comes with a shot of bar oil to get you started. Unit will work until government figures out how to put ethanol in a battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better life than expected I didn't expect to be cutting trees down with this thing. I bought it to remove branches and cut small trees up for the woodshed. Fact is that now I haven't used my gas chain saw since I bought this thing. It's cutting full size trees on a single battery and that's a lot of work for an electric saw. The fat batteries work best, but I never expected to replace my gas saw with this and I did. That said, if you're doing more than one tree at a time you'll need multiple batteries or this will just not keep up with you. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

He was thrilled, used it right after opening (with the batteries he already has for these items) and it worked great. He had no complaints and loved the chain tension tightener feature.

I put it to the test on some pine and oak, it did fine. It's no gas chainsaw, but it's great for medium to light duty work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good addition to my other 2 units, the 40-volt trimmer & edger. Used it last weekend and it does what it's made for, trimming branches..I've only used it so far to trim branches 3" to 4" in dia. on some older pines, just let it do the work, no need to force it to cut. Easily cut some larger downed branches 6" dia...After using it for over a half hour it still had 1/2 the battery life left, and oil still 1/2 full. Did not have leaking problem like some of the other reviews. Only negative comment the packaging from the shipping dept..AWFUL...just thrown in the box, no packing material, no inner box, i'm amazed it came in one piece. The edger I bought separately shipped same way. Not double boxed, no packing.
