Answer:
Depends on the tool and use. Personally I feel the 15volt batteries/tools are too light duty. My preference and experience is with the 40 volt batteries/tools which are durable and work great.

Answer:
If you're like me, you will eventually need both. The 40v is good for heavier duty tools, like lawn mower and chainsaw. Smaller, hand tools usually only come with 18v batteries.

I really like the extra capacity of a 40 volt, multi-tool system. I have had very good experiences with Ryobi tools. I already owned the Ryobi 40 volt string trimmer so it made since to purchase the chainsaw that uses the same battery.

Answer:
Hey Irish -- We do not offer a 15 volt line, we offer a 40, 24 and 18v option. Regarding the chainsaw, it would depend on how large you need your blade to be. We offer a 12 and a 14" blade in our 40v line and a 10" blade on our 18v model. Please contact our customer service line at 1-800-860-4050 with any further questions. Thanks!

Answer:
The Ryobi 40v batteries should be universal, I use the same one for the trimmer and chain saw. Some are rating for more or less watt hours of kilowatt hours but that just means the will last longer or shorter, same 40v system.

Yes, they will work. I did what you are thinking. I purchased the 40v lithium mower first. It came with two batteries and a charger. I then purchased the 40v chainsaw by itself. The mower batteries work well in it! Enjoy!

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 130 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by joke weighs (with battery) as much as my small stihl, will cut limbs the size of your thumb, cuts like a saw with the chain on backwards. first use will probably be my last. Unit looks nice though, packing was good, directions good, comes with a shot of bar oil to get you started. Unit will work until government figures out how to put ethanol in a battery. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A fine small chainsaw 1. Have not been able to find a carrying case for it. It has saturated a piece of 2 x 8 4-feet long with its oozing bar/chain oil. 2. Have to occasionally pull battery and slap it back in. I think the saw's battery contacts got slightly corroded before I bought it. Proof? There was a coupon in the box that had expired two years ago. 3. When it works, it works great. I have felled, limbed, and bucked two dead 25-foot tall pine trees, and done some pruning with it. 4. Only suggestion: the box it comes in should be freshness dated. August 2, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good power but poor design. The chain tensioner is okay but not great on this saw. With quite a bit of cutting, it began to have the chain jump off the tracks. Then, the c-clip that holds the chain onto the drive mechanism came off and got lost in the weeds. There are many things to like about this saw, but just spend the extra for their brushless chainsaw. It's far better and is what I replaced this one with. August 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Saw Great little saw for light duty yard work, tree pruning, etc. Only problem I have had was the lack of information on the battery of which I have several for other tools. Saw literature indicates the older batteries will work but the new battery version is recommended. This info should have been in the saw description so an educated purchase could have been made. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like a champ Great for those smaller jobs when you dont want to lug around a big heavy chainsaw! Very pleased! August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good chainsaw for small jobs I bought this because I needed something to cut up small branches that continually fall out of the sweet gum trees in our front yard. I did not want to have to maintain another gas powered tool or put up with the mess associated with them. So electric was the way to go. But, having to lug an extension cord around and hopefully have enough length to reach the stuff I needed to cut up was a serious drawback. Then I discovered that Ryobi made a chainsaw that used the 40V battery I had already purchased that worked with a string trimmer and blower. This fit the bill perfectly. I've only used it a couple of times but it did those small jobs very well. No gas, no oil, no mess. And the 40V system provides plenty of power for what I need it for. I thought it was a little expensive - I bought the version without the battery since I already had one. It seems very well made and was extremely easy to use. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi 40V cordless Chain Saw Light to use, cuts well and I'm very pleased with it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] April 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Small and portable Seems to do a good job but the only thing I didn't like was ta hat the retaining clip that holds tge gear on to drive the chain fell off and chain came off. I had to go to Harbor Freight and pick up another clip to repair it with only minimum use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] April 19, 2016
