After some difficulty in charging the battery pack, the unit was used. It cut up to 6-7" logs with no problem. A moderate number of cuts can be made before the battery pack needed a recharge. In all fairness, one should see how the unit works after some time. Being new and not being familiar with the quirks of the unit may taint results. Still, overall, I am impressed with the utility of this chain saw. My goal was to find a unit which could be used for simple trimming. I have two larger gasoline-powered chainsaws and the larger one is too much for many of the little jobs which come up. The Ryobi seems to be a great unit to handle these chores.

When I don't need the big chain saw, I pull out the little Robi cordless. It handles most jobs I have around the farm and it's light enough to take in muddy areas where the footing isn't always great. The battery doesn't last very long when cutting the larger logs, but I can burn through a fair amount of smaller ones with one charge. Even though the battery goes pretty quick on larger logs, it still cuts through them like butter. I love it! The oil lasts about as long as one battery life. I do wish I had gotten the larger battery though--I guess I know what to ask for for Christmas this year! It's even light enough for a man to use, if one were so inclined :)

No problem setting up. Charge the battery and fill the chain oil reservoir, and away you go. So far, it cuts good, but haven't used it enough to see how long before the chain needs sharpening.

Pretty light weight, about half the power of my 14" gas powered chainsaw. OK for those times when you are in a tree, or out in the bush and a big saw might be too much.

The Ryobi lithium battery chain saw took down this tree that had been laying over the fence line for a long time. It was a breeze! We have a gas-operated chainsaw - a lot of trouble to get out and ready it for one tree; we didn't have an electrical cord long enough to use our corded chain saw. This Ryobi was perfect for the job. It was easy to operate and light enough for the woman of the house to use, We would definitely recommend this product!

The saw works fine but not a replacement for my gas chainsaw. The chain comes off during use because the c-clip holding the chain drive sprocket comes off. The second time I lost the sprocket and had to order another one and wait to use the saw. If you plan on use in the woods I recommend a spare sprocket, washer and c-clip.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by sawguy Handy cordless chainsaw !
The chainsaw has good power for a battery powered unit. The chain speed is definitely slower than a gas powered saw, so the cutting action is a bit "rougher" than the smooth action you get with a faster gas powered saw. That said, the saw is very handy and has the power to cut most reasonable size trees and logs you run across in the woods. It is handy to use it on your ATV as you do not have to mess with the gas/oil mix if you want to grab it in case you run across a tree that has fallen across your ATV trail. My wife likes to use it because it is lighter than the gas powered saw. Also, of course there are no issues with the pull starting effort. The battery runs about 45 minutes if used continuously. There is a larger battery than can be purchased. As others have mentioned, it does leak and use a lot of chain oil. This is a great saw for small jobs and as a backup saw.
