I am a professional and use cordless tools way up trees all the time. I have used a number of different brands but this Ryobi will be the one that I purchase in quantity in the future. ONE "BEWARE": THIS COMES WITH A 2AH 40-V BATTERY. BE SURE TO GET THE 4AH 40-V BATTERY. The larger battery has an amazing work time between charges. With the 2AH battery this is OK as a home handyman special but with the 4AH it is a reliable professional tool.

Similar to other reviewers, this is a great tool for cleaning up small yard work. I recommend using it on smaller logs/trees (ideally 6-8" in diameter). Anything larger and it does get bogged down or has to be recharged frequently. I also purchased an extra, higher capacity 4h battery which makes a big different in performance for this saw. However, I regret not just buying the 14" brushless engine model. For a marginal increase in price I think it's a more efficient and more powerful saw that could just as easily handle small things but also cross over to bigger logs and trees I have on my property

I bought this saw for my wife as she had been asking for a saw that was easy to use. Gas chain saws are heavy and not always easy to start. This saw you just squeeze the trigger and start cutting. It is light in weigh and easy for her to carry. The saw has great features and is self lubricating which is a must. It is a great size for cutting small trees and limbs. It charged up quickly and held the charge long enough for her to do what she wanted to do. She is happy.

Battery lasts really long. Impressive power for a cordless. With a 12 inch bar it kinda feels like a toy, but it gets the job done. And it's pretty quite

This is a great little saw for pruning trees. Very light weight makes it easy to handle even on a ladder. Plenty of power for cutting and light enough for one-handed operation.

Cuts through and finishes nice. No problem cutting through 8" branches. Great for clean up. Light Weight, easy to carry and use. I used this little chain saw to cut juniper trees down to the stump with little effort.
Very little as far as I'm concerned. The Bar and Chain oil will leak a little when stored. I put a cloth underneath it on top of my roll away. Not a drop on my tool box. After using it for maybe less than an hour I realized it uses a little oil but not too bad and the oil is less than $5 bucks a bottle and that one bottle will last a while as this is only for occasional use for me.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HalP Cordless Chain Saw Works!
After some difficulty in charging the battery pack, the unit was used. It cut up to 6-7" logs with no problem. A moderate number of cuts can be made before the battery pack needed a recharge. In all fairness, one should see how the unit works after some time. Being new and not being familiar with the quirks of the unit may taint results. Still, overall, I am impressed with the utility of this chain saw. My goal was to find a unit which could be used for simple trimming. I have two larger gasoline-powered chainsaws and the larger one is too much for many of the little jobs which come up. The Ryobi seems to be a great unit to handle these chores.

When I don't need the big chain saw, I pull out the little Robi cordless. It handles most jobs I have around the farm and it's light enough to take in muddy areas where the footing isn't always great. The battery doesn't last very long when cutting the larger logs, but I can burn through a fair amount of smaller ones with one charge. Even though the battery goes pretty quick on larger logs, it still cuts through them like butter. I love it! The oil lasts about as long as one battery life. I do wish I had gotten the larger battery though--I guess I know what to ask for for Christmas this year! It's even light enough for a man to use, if one were so inclined :)
