Great little chainsaw that ran for hours. 4 trees fell down from a bad storm and it cut them all very smoothly and efficiently. It is slower and less powerful then a gas chainsaw on the larger stuff but the end result is the same. It is also very light and runs as easy as you pull the trigger. No pulling the cord repeatedly and messing with the choke to get it started like a gas saw.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Radioguy A great tool for trimming limbs and removing small trees
I purchased this cordless saw because of all the reports from my neighbors and friends of gas chain saws being damaged by Ethanol in the gasoline. I still wanted the ability to trim limbs â even when there is no local power due to a storm. So the battery was the way to go â I just need to establish a routine to insure it is always charged and ready to go.
The saw is like any power tool. You have to let it cut at its speed and ability. This saw is not as powerful as a gas saw. It will cut â you just have to get used to the slower speed and higher torque. If you push the saw to hard it will just shorten the battery life and not cut any faster.
My first use of this saw was to cut up a small tree that had fallen on my property due to a storm. The trunk diameter ranged from 4 inches at the top to 14 inches at the base. I made 17 cuts on the first charge. As I progressed to the larger diameter the saw definitely uses up the battery more quickly. I removed the safety tip to make the 14" cuts. No problem with kickback due to the slower speed. The ability to tighten the chain without tools is a really great feature
Very impressed with the saw. The automatic oiler works well and the top mounted battery provides a good weight to balance ratio when cutting. If you space time between each cut the battery seems to recover slightly and last longer. You will definitely want to learn how to sharpen the blade as a dull blade will just eat up the battery.
I am planning on getting a second battery. I may buy another 40V Ryobi tool to get two batteries as purchasing a replacement battery alone is quite expensive.

I have been using Ryobi products for over 11 years they offer great value for the pricing. I was looking for a nice 2 stroke chainsaw when I came accross these 40volt versions. This is a perfect balance of power and versatility for my uses. I can pack it in the RV and cut up firewood to be hauled back to the campsite. Also works extremely well around the house. I have really pushed mine further than I was expecting too. I decided to take down the 5 25ft Ficus trees in my back yard. The Ryobi powered through. The original battery that came with the chainsaw was the OP4015 40volt. The OP4015 battery pack is what I expected as far as run time. With the OP4015 I would get 1 hour runtime of bucking 3" diameter branches at a good pace. I was satisfied with that especially with a 90min charge time. When I decided to take on cutting down the ficus trees I purchased the 40volt trimmer because it was only 40 bucks more than purchasing a second battery. Well little did I know the trimmer came with the new OP4026 "high capacity" battery pack. The battery pack uses the same charger (OP400) and lasts a very long time. I now own two OP4026 high capacity batteries and I run out of energy and daylight before I run out of power. The new battery packs put this 40volt series over the top. I'm go to pick up the lawn mower to complete the set and I am extremely satisfied with the product.

This saw is very easy to handle. The fact that the battery is interchangeable with the weed trimmer was a big selling point.

This Ryobi chainsaw exceeded my expectations.
This is a big project Summer at our house. The list is endless (you may hear more from me!)
One of my personal priorities was to remove two 50+ year old cedar Arborvitae blocking off my favorite old Rhododendron. It had grown to about 12-16 feet and filling a space about 6 feet in diameter.
I have another corded chainsaw which works "okay..." so honestly I didn't really expect too much.
I also have a Ryobi 18 volt pole chainsaw and and the new 40 volt hedge trimmer. I used these to trim my way into the trunk and top it before cutting the rest down.
Once I had space to access my target work area I used the chainsaw to cut through the two 8 inch diameter.
Here's what I like:
* Easy to use bar adjustment for removal or tightening- turn a couple of knobs and you're good.
* Batteries interchangeable with other Ryobi 40 volt tools (cool battery meter show exactly how much charge is left)
* Battery life is great- I didn't have to recharge. Recharging takes 90 minutes.
* Plenty of torque for cutting (I cut an 8-10 inch trunk with no problem)
* Light weight and simple to use
I really can't think of any serious "Cons".
Based on my experience here, I wouldn't hesitate to try another Ryobi cordless product!
