Danny, maybe, if you keep turning the stock timber several times, but, I doubt it, even then. After all, this is just a 10", non-sliding, miter saw.

I will try to answer your question but I have not tried to cut anything quite that big. I believe it will not do it in one cut. The blade is 10 inches and so it will likely only cut that down to a max of 5 inches. You could flip the wood to get it to cut all the way through. This however would make angled cuts very tricky. It is a great saw but I have only used it for 2x4s and smaller wood types.

Kelley, keep in mind that we're not talking about a full 4" of work piece depth. A 4"x4" post is really around 3.5" on a side. This saw will definitely "make the cut".
Please consider, as well, if you expect to make tons of cuts at that depth, that you might possibly get the most satisfactory results with a different blade. There are many choices. I would suggest you do some Googling to educate Read More

Please consider, as well, if you expect to make tons of cuts at that depth, that you might possibly get the most satisfactory results with a different blade. There are many choices. I would suggest you do some Googling to educate yourself, using such search terms as 'best table saw blades for deep cuts in wood'. You get the idea. Typically, these blades are called 'crosscut', since, well, that's what you're doing. Read Less

Answer:
No, you would need a bigger blade, this unite only has a 10" blade and the cutting depth is not for a stock that large. A table saw or rotary arm saw would do, depending on the blade size.

YES! That's the way I use the one I bought recently at Home Depot. It was this exact product. Not only that, but, you don't even need to clamp it down to your workbench -- I never worry about it wandering during use, although that would be something you should be cognizant of, just in case.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by pop rivet problem I bought one of these saws second hand so I don't know how it was treated before I got it from a pawn store but It looked in nearly new condition and the blade was still sharp. However, only about 40 repetitions into a shelf for the garage the rivet holding the blade guard to the metal bracket broke. It was an easy repair with a nut and bolt since I didn't have a rivet that size and I was back in business with no more issues. May 19, 2016
