Customer Questions & Answers

Can I cut down thin oak trees with this model?

Asked by: Djg0921
yes
Answered by: kuya
Date published: 2016-11-01

Will it be preassembled? Or can I request that you can assemble it.

Asked by: Kencoppell
It's pre-assembled but needs the oil and lube for the chain. Beware, if you order online and have it shipped to your house, they do not put it in a box. So when it arrives, it's just the chainsaw box with the saw sticking out (covered).

Does it come filled with chain oil. Or do you have to buy it separately.

Asked by: Danny
No but you'll need a quart size to do much anyway.

Old electric chain saw died before finishing removal of tree & stump - the plug 'prongs' were fried because the cord would get loose. This 40V eliminates need for gas or cords which is a plus. I tried it out on the drake elm stump and it worked ok, but not great. The wood is dense and it took a bit of manual force, but it got the job done. The big tree (dead birch) is in progress. The saw is adequate for my needs, but I wish it had a little more power and they made a 16". I don't think it lives up to the string trimmer and pole saw which I already own and love.

Great power for a cordless - goes through fair sized trunks like the proverbial knife through butter. You probably want the bare tool, as the complete system usually comes with the weedy battery. Not the lightest saw, but given the power, no surprise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Above expectations I got this chainsaw for Christmas and it was used soon after for the first time. It was an excellent tool that blew away what I thought an electric tool, of this kind, could do. I used it on some red oak that was recently downed and it cut through it with ease. The brushless motor and the torque proved adequate for the job. I didnt have to use it too long so I don't know about the battery life, yet. But when you consider the amount of energy needed to cut wood, it worked for the hour or so that I needed it. I am looking forward to using it on something else soon and for a longer duration. It was not even put into a box. This was to be a surprise Christmas gift for my husband who got to see it sitting on the porch because it was not in a box. So it was no surprise. I will have to re-think purchasing items such as this online from Home Depot in the future; I would have thought with the cost and value, it would have been in a box so people wouldn't see it sitting on my porch when it was delivered. Extremely disappointed. I'll update our review on the actual product itself when he has had time to use it as I don't feel it fair to give it one or five stars yet. For the moment, I'm giving one star since it will not allow me to submit this without choosing a rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A useful chain saw for a novice I was initially very impressed with the cutting ability and battery life of the saw. That is until I tried to cut a stump that turned out to be filled with dirt. I am still learning how to sharpen chain saw chains. Despite the battery life issues, I think that a battery chain saw is safer than a gas one because there is no temptation to let it run between cuts. I like not having to be concerned with mixing oil with gas and stale fuel. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for medium to small work This 40 volt Ryobi 14 inch chain saw is very easy to use. Also glad that I have two batteries as the saw does tend to loose power as the battery gets to about half power. The chain also tends to get dull very quick. The saw also did NOT come with any bar chain oil which is needed in order to run the saw. I purchased a sharpening file which does work well but needs to be used after about a half hour or cutting. My home depot does not carry replacement Ryobi chains. I purchased an off brand 14 inch chain which seems to have stronger cutting teeth. However on the new chain the part of the chain which rides in the track is 0.050 thick and the Ryobi chain is 0.045 thick thus the new chain bound up in the track and would not spin. I ended up prying the track wider with a flat screw driver in order to use the new chain which cut much faster than the Ryobi chain.
