CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 5 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ryobi 14 in. 40 volt cordless chainsaw I downgraded the ease of use category because the battery is very difficult to remove. As expected it doesn't have as much power as the gasoline version, but it does have more power than I expected from a battery powered device.. November 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent and indispensable! This 10 lb. (w/o battery) chainsaw is even better than expected. Even with its slender blade, the cuts are fast and clean with plenty of power and length of charge delivered by the 40V li-ion battery. I paired the tool with the fat 4026 battery which fully fills the battery space. While I can't reverse the position of the battery for safety storage with the chainsaw (as you can with the slim battery), I prefer the longer run time the 3 lb fat 4026 battery delivers over the 2.2 lb slim 4015A battery that comes when you order the kit. Some reviews suggest the earlier Ryobi chainsaw model (12" blade) used a great deal of oil and had a tendency to leak oil from the tool, but I see no leakage or excessive oil use with this later model with the 14" blade when using a high quality bar and chain oil (Itasca) which is relatively thick. All chainsaws should throw a very small amount of oil while in use as evidence of lubrication of the chain at the revolution speed needed to cut. (Test this by running the saw above a large piece of paper.) The oil reservoir level is not easy to read through the opaque plastic, but the reservoir is ample sized and removing the cap to check and fill to the appropriate level each time you insert a charged battery should ensure you are protecting the moving parts with the lubrication they need. In use, this saw is extremely easy to handle, with very little vibration. Since chain motion ends as soon as your hand releases the lever, no brake is necessary to stop the chain, making this much safer to use than a conventional gas-driven saw. Add to that, no seasonal maintenance, no fuel mixing and storing, no smell, no cords, and a speedy recharge time, and this is a true winner among my tools! If you add other Ryobi 40v tools (like Ryobi's 40v 16" mower), as I have, you will find 2 batteries will allow you to extend your job time beyond what your body can handle in a day. Note: p. 15 of Ryobi's Operator's Manual with this chainsaw suggests 40V batteries with part number 130186012 for the 4026 battery (like mine), part number 130186006 for the 4026 battery, or part number 1300208001 for the 4015 slim battery which are considered their first generation 40V li-ion batteries will deliver significantly reduced chain speed. Mine did not, delivering the same fast speed I'd had with other electric or gas driven chainsaws I'd used. But if you are buying your battery at the time you purchase your saw, the recommendation is to purchase only battery models 4026A (fat) or 4015A (slim) batteries which are supposed to deliver the best performance. Rated 5 out of 5 by A Great Addition This saw was a great addition to the other 40 volt Ryobi tools I purchased this summer. I read all the reviews and found them to be very accurate in it's performance. Perfect for what I needed. I plan to purchase the hedge trimmer before Christmas and the 16 inch lawnmower in the spring. October 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by As advertised This is not a chain saw to fell and cut up large trees/limbs. It is a saw for lighter jobs and trimming and for that it is well suited. I cut limbs up to 8" diameter and it probably would have handled a little larger. Because it is lightweight and with a relatively thin cut I found it better to let the saw do the work rather than trying to force it through. Battery life very acceptable. All in all, very happy with purchase. Shares battery with string trimmer and soon to be purchased leaf blower. September 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than expected, very happy with this chainsaw! Chainsaw was very easy to setup and use. Took it out of the box, added bar oil, put in a battery and started cutting wood!. Worked as well if not better than my 16in gas chainsaw. Was able to cut through a 18in Cherry stump with no problems (took two passes of course). Very lightweight, but strong. The chain did stop a couple of times, but just moved the saw a little bit, and it went right on cutting. Never had a kickback. Battery lasted about 30 mins. I have other batteries for my other 40v tools, so this just means changing out batteries. 30 mins seems like a good break time anyway. August 19, 2014
