With a high-capacity 40-Volt lithium-ion battery powering the brushless motor, this saw delivers the fast cutting speed and higher torque you would expect from a gas model. And as part of the Ryobi 40-Volt system, the lithium-ion battery recharges in just 1 hour and works with any of the other tools in the Ryobi 40-Volt family. Also including comfort features like the wrap-around handle and automatic oiler, this saw provides easy, comfortable operation for larger clean up jobs. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw If you are not a fan of gas saws, then grab this one. Will cut lots of small to med stuff, but get a second battery and change the chain on it. chain that came with it fouled up but no problems with it since. Great tool February 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous tool - will not live with out it I am a 58 yr old widow who never used a chainsaw until 6 years ago. I burn wood as my source of heat. I started out with the 18 volt 10" Ryobi which helped me to develop a healthy respect for chainsaws. I do not have the umph required to start a gas chainsaw plus they are heavy, noisy and too fast. So I bought this bad boy a month ago and have used it to cut up a 20" dead oak tree as well as cutting down various diameter dead trees. Yes it is slower than a gas saw, but it is also quieter and allows me to listen to the tree as I am cutting it. When it starts to crack, I step back and give the tree a little nudge and down it goes. Prior to having this saw, I had never cut down any trees of any substance. I am cautious when cutting trees down and do let fear and common sense hold me back. I would not part with this saw. I have 5 batteries and find this saw suits me perfectly. September 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this saw so far! I've never used a battery powered chainsaw so can't compare to another brand but compared to same size electric or gas, love this saw. Has way more power than I thought it would and is quiet for a saw. Definitely lighter than gas. My only complaint would be to include a small bottle of chain bar oil so you could use it immediately. If someone didn't read the instructions that could be a problem! It does leak a little oil but the manual said it would. August 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Let the chips fly! This chainsaw was shipped completely assembled, which used an unusual packaging - a box with the plastic blade scabbard sticking out one end. The delivery woman commented that the unusual shape made the package difficult to handle during shipping. It included the OP4015A compact/slim battery, battery charger, and a combination wrench for adjusting chain tension that neatly stores under the handle. Balance was spot-on using the compact battery, A full-size OP4026 battery resulted in the balance shifting towards the handle. The 32-page manual is one of the best I've seen with extensive use instructions, maintenance information, and plenty of warnings. Among the warnings are notes that it's intended for light-duty use including pruning, and felling and bucking small trees. There's also a note that using first-generation 40v batteries will significantly reduce chain speed, so I'll stick with using the compact battery that came with the saw. While there's no chain brake, the chain stops in about a second from full speed. Cutting my firewood was quick and clean, cutting through a 6" round in about 5 seconds. One thing I'm not happy about is the note that the saw will leak bar oil when not in use, with the recommendation to empty the bar oil for storage. It takes about 2 tablespoons of oil to fill up the bar oil tank to the minimum level. The oil cap is tethered so it won't get lost, but that wasn't so good when trying to empty the oil with the cap dangling under the oil stream. July 7, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy and quiet. The saw was quiet and easy to use. I cut a huge 7" diameter tree limb and into several pieces from a tree and only used one bar of the battery's charge (probably a couple dozen cuts).. Of course with the new sharp chain it cut it like a knife through hot butter. April 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome saw with a little upgrade I found that the .043 chain on this saw is a little hard to find unless you order it online. I decided to upgrade to a Oregon 14" .050 bar and chain combo. I was a little concerned that the slightly thicker chain may rob power. However I was pleased at how well it performed. I didn't notice any power loss. The new bar and chain really make this saw feel more solid. It cut really well with the original chain, but the Oregon chain is so much better. Also now I can walk into any hardware or big box store and buy a .050 replacement chain. I highly recommend this saw and recommend doing the thirty dollar bar and chain upgrade as well. June 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Outdoor Tool Purchase Ever! I was getting very tired of using my loppers to cut pesky azaleas bushes that ran amok in our yard. Finally broke down and decided to get a chainsaw. I considered it an investment because we have other trees that will need to be felled before long. Anyway, I was able to put the chain bar lube in and go to work immediately! Cut through all of the bushes (about 20) in under 20 minutes, including a little cooldown time as not to overheat the chainsaw. Changed out the chain, just to see how easy it is, and it is extremely easy! My only qualm is that the adjustment pin should be steel. I know it's just to adjust, but I'm old school and I like a little more metal in my tools. :) Other than that.... GREAT BUY!!! July 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not dissapointed at all ! This saw is replacing my 16 year old Homelite 240 16". Have used this Roybi for a total of about 10 hours during the last month and am amazed at what this saw can do. It did try to cut some steel fencing (without success lol) that a tree I was falling had swallowed prob about 40 years ago. Could not find a replacement chain R52 anywhere so I purchased the Oregon S52 14" bar and chain combo. I believe the Oregon cuts faster and has less chain noise than the stock setup.
