Customer Questions & Answers

Which battery comes with this chainsaw - the High Capacity or the Slim Line?

Asked by: MarilynB
What would be helpful is tellin us how long battery will last. Maybe exspressed in how many #2 4x4s you can cut throug on one charge.

Does this saw come with a tip gaurd?

Asked by: Josh
The tip guard is to prevent you from cutting with the tip and getting kick back. The larger saws have more weight meaning you are less likely to use the saw with one hand. This is never a good idea. The chain is anti-kick design but always have both hands on the saw and expect it to kick.

How to tighten tension on chain

After three cuts, the chain came off the bar. I read the manual. I cannot find a combination tool that is supposed to have come with the saw. What can I use to tighten the chain? The tighten screw is supposed to be tool free? I am a newbie.
Asked by: SpottedAdder
I also did not find the tool that should have been with the saw. However the tool that fits other chain saws such as my old Poulan fit or you can use a socket wrench and screw driver. Loosen the 2 nuts on the side enough to tighten the bar with the screw which is located just behind and slightly below the nuts. When you have the tension you need, remember to retighten the nuts.

14 in. 40-Volt Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Chainsaw - 1.5 Ah Battery and Charger Included is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 369.

I had read the reviews about short battery life and was a little concerned; however, I already had a Ryobi 40-Volt battery and decided to purchase the saw anyway. I'm certainly glad I did. I had 2 trees both about 30' tall, 1 was about 8" diameter the other about 6" diameter. The saw fell both trees and was able to cut off the branches from both trees on one battery charge. I had to swap batteries to saw the trees into fireplace size logs. Was able to get one tree cut up on that battery before the need to swap again. In the amount of time it takes for the battery to run down the other battery has time to nearly fully charge. Short story, with 2 batteries you can cut continuously with the charge and swap method.

This Ryobi has battery tech that puts it ahead of other companies gear. Brushless is amazing. The battery included is the WEAK POINT!! Come on, Ryobi! Include *at least* your 2.4 AH, or better yet, your 5 AH battery!! My older 40v trimmer battery absolutely bogs this saw down and should not be used. Yes, I've bought a 5 AH separately but I feel cheated in a way. 1.5 AH is downright weak for this tool. But it cuts better than my old 2.4 AH battery. Hence buying the newer one.... c'est la vie. It cuts and it cuts well on the 1.5 just needs more juice to cut longer.

Cuts 8 in diameter provided you cut on both sides. Battery will run down after about 1/2 hour of work but charges quickly. May be a good idea to get two batteries if you mind taking a work break for an hour or so for the battery to recharge. Chain seems to be out of the guide on upper side of bar. Goes back into track on lower side where cutting happens. I may have to look into this by removing drive cover and checking alignment and chain tension. Do not want to wear out guides in chain. Very happen with saw. So nice not to mess with fuel and oily exhaust with noise.

No long extension cords, no gas to mess with and no loud 2 cycle motor to maintain. The saw cuts good and has a decent amount of power. The trouble is the battery. I only got about 15 minutes of cutting time until the battery died. Then it took an hour to recharge it. I had 6 fairly large trees that blew over in a storm. It took me all afternoon and I couldn't even get one tree cut up. I then bought a second battery (cost $100) and it was defective right off the bat. I finally returned the whole thing. The saw is actually very nice, but it's only suitable for light tasks or small jobs. I'm getting a good gas saw instead.

I'll admit - I was skeptical...but I had the 40V trimmer and an extra battery, so I figured I'd give the saw a try. I am very much impressed. For the record, I am your average do-it-yourself homeowner, so I'm not trying o use this on pro jobs. If I need a 30 foot tall, 4 foot wide tree cut down, I'll call someone in. That being said, I had 2 trees on my property that were damaged in storms recently, and I had both trees down, the brush trimmed off and the bigger sections chopped with just 2 batteries (truly 1 battery per tree). I don't see most homeowners taking down dozens of trees in a day/weekend, so I believe it's a useful run time. The saw had plenty of power, was very light, and didn't have a lot of vibration when cutting. A joy to use.

It made quick work of four Aspens, all about 14 inches in diameter. The 1.5Ah battery is an odd choice to include with the chainsaw though. It performed well, lasted a good while, and was much more convenient to use then my 5Ah. I just find it odd that the smallest battery is included on one of the heaviest drawing items. The most enjoyable part is not having to fuss with gas and oil. There is nothing better then sliding in a charged battery and pulling the trigger without worrying if it's going to start. It's also incredibly quiet which is a nice plus when working in a neighborhood early on a weekend. Highly recommmend. I also see where it will have advantages during car camping or where you might have to deal with downed branches/ trees from inclement weather.

It worked well and I like the mobility as opposed to a corded electric chainsaw. I also like that it has less vibration than a gas powered chainsaw. The problem is the battery life. it only lasted about an hour of solid cutting. The good news is that it recharges fast. The best bet is to have a second battery that can be switched out for longer jobs.

It has sufficient power to cut through branches at least 6" wide with no trouble. The battery lasts about 30-45 minutes of continuous use. Having the battery gives me a lot of flexibility all over the yard without having to worry about an extension cord getting in the way. This is my first chainsaw, but I'm quite happy with the purchase.
