How to tighten tension on chain

After three cuts, the chain came off the bar. I read the manual. I cannot find a combination tool that is supposed to have come with the saw. What can I use to tighten the chain? The tighten screw is supposed to be tool free? I am a newbie.
Asked by: SpottedAdder
I also did not find the tool that should have been with the saw. However the tool that fits other chain saws such as my old Poulan fit or you can use a socket wrench and screw driver. Loosen the 2 nuts on the side enough to tighten the bar with the screw which is located just behind and slightly below the nuts. When you have the tension you need, remember to retighten the nuts.

I had read the reviews about short battery life and was a little concerned; however, I already had a Ryobi 40-Volt battery and decided to purchase the saw anyway. I'm certainly glad I did. I had 2 trees both about 30' tall, 1 was about 8" diameter the other about 6" diameter. The saw fell both trees and was able to cut off the branches from both trees on one battery charge. I had to swap batteries to saw the trees into fireplace size logs. Was able to get one tree cut up on that battery before the need to swap again. In the amount of time it takes for the battery to run down the other battery has time to nearly fully charge. Short story, with 2 batteries you can cut continuously with the charge and swap method.

This Ryobi has battery tech that puts it ahead of other companies gear. Brushless is amazing. The battery included is the WEAK POINT!! Come on, Ryobi! Include *at least* your 2.4 AH, or better yet, your 5 AH battery!! My older 40v trimmer battery absolutely bogs this saw down and should not be used. Yes, I've bought a 5 AH separately but I feel cheated in a way. 1.5 AH is downright weak for this tool. But it cuts better than my old 2.4 AH battery. Hence buying the newer one.... c'est la vie. It cuts and it cuts well on the 1.5 just needs more juice to cut longer.

Cuts 8 in diameter provided you cut on both sides. Battery will run down after about 1/2 hour of work but charges quickly. May be a good idea to get two batteries if you mind taking a work break for an hour or so for the battery to recharge. Chain seems to be out of the guide on upper side of bar. Goes back into track on lower side where cutting happens. I may have to look into this by removing drive cover and checking alignment and chain tension. Do not want to wear out guides in chain. Very happen with saw. So nice not to mess with fuel and oily exhaust with noise.

I bought this chainsaw after I couldn't get a "professional" to help with cleanup after Hurricane Matthew. The chainsaw works great, however, it drains the battery really fast, so make sure you have spares (we have a Ryobi lawnmower so we had a second battery). Because of the short battery life, I would only recommend this for light duty. If you need to do a lot of cutting you may want to consider a gas or electric (non-cordless) chainsaw. Also, note that this product uses a 40-volt battery, not the 18-volt that many of the other Ryobi tools use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Power, Good Battery Life, Great Weight I waited a few years to replace a gas chainsaw that died. It was noisy and storing it inside during the winter was a problem with gas, Then a tree fell this winter and I stumbled across this rechargeable that reviews said would do the same job as a gas chainsaw. Have to say I'm impressed with the power for something this lightweight. It cuts easily and quietly at this point. I'd give it a higher rating but will wait to see how it holds up over time. The only downside is that it only comes with a 1.5 ah battery that provided enough power to buck the tree as shown in the photo, but that was it. I'll probably buy the 5 ah battery for the next tree that falls but it's not essential.

This saw provides limited work time and extensive recharging time for the battery (much more than overnight). Additionally Home Depot DOES NOT provide support at store level. You MUST order replacement chains on line as the stores do not stock them. Replacement parts are a joke! The bar oil cap on mine cracked after the 5th use and H.D. doesn't have a way to sell them. I went to the manufactures recommended parts supplier to order one and have been waiting two weeks. I called the supplier to find out and was told that the part is on back order (I wasn't told that when ordering) and it would be another few weeks! In sum DON'T BUY THIS SAW !!!!

The saw itself is fantastic and cuts great... for 20 whole minutes, even with the upgraded battery. - but the batteries are ridiculous. After buying 2 batteries, both of which failed in less than 6 months, and often refused to take a charge - I've decided to go with a gas option. and Ryobi's customer service is essentially non-existent. Calls to their service line are unanswered - and emails cannot be completed because you must first register, which gives a "sorry, something went wrong" error. Also, it seems that nearly all of their US service centers have closed entirely. A great battery operated saw, is useless without batteries.
