Thanks to the above posters that warned about the low capacity battery. I went to purchase this saw today, opened the box, and sure enough the 4015 low capacity battery was included. Right back on the shelf it went and I picked up a gas model. Sorry Ryobi, you lost a sale due to cheaping out on the battery. Heck my 40-amp Ryobi edger even came with the high capacity battery.

Yes, it needs bar oil. That's the one thing all chainsaws need, still. While, IMO, battery operation is a great evolution in power for chainsaws, they still haven't figured out how to get away from bar oil.

Yes, it needs bar chain oil. The bar chain oil is used to lubricate the chain moving around the bar so it does not bind or excessively wear the bar as it is used.

No, it does not, and I personally don't think you need one with this saw. The tip guard gets in the way with plunge cuts. the 14" bar is long enough that you should not need the tip saw, also the motor has a load sensor on it, so another reason not to need a tip guard.

I'm not aware of any pole saw attachment that would adapt to the chain saw or the hedge trimmer and can't envision how it could be accomplished. My pole saw attachments have a 12 inch bar. It appears that the bars and chains might be interchangeable with the 14 inch bar and chain of the saw but I haven't tried it. The 14 inch saw and the hedge trimmer are both heavy enough that you wouldn't want to try to use them at the end of a pole. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 175 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by battery, battery, battery...beware Much like other reviews have noted, the manual states (page 15 - see pic) the use of the 1.5ah or 2.4ah batteries will result in degraded performance. What was in the box when I opened it? A 1.5ah battery! Back to the store it went. Please Home Depot / Ryobi - charge me another $50 (price diff between 1.5ah and 5ah batteries) for the chainsaw, don't make me go buy a separate battery... I LOVE the Ryobi 40v products - I own the hedge trimmer, edger, two weed whippers, pole saw, and a blower. I really wanted to add the chainsaw to my collection...but not like it is currently packaged. June 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Power, Good Battery Life, Great Weight I waited a few years to replace a gas chainsaw that died. It was noisy and storing it inside during the winter was a problem with gas, Then a tree fell this winter and I stumbled across this rechargeable that reviews said would do the same job as a gas chainsaw. Have to say I'm impressed with the power for something this lightweight. It cuts easily and quietly at this point. I'd give it a higher rating but will wait to see how it holds up over time. The only downside is that it only comes with a 1.5 ah battery that provided enough power to buck the tree as shown in the photo, but that was it. I'll probably buy the 5 ah battery for the next tree that falls but it's not essential. June 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great saw! I bought this saw because I was tired of heavy hard starting gas saws for doing cleanup work like trimming branches. I have to say I love this saw!!! It's lite weight but very powerful and the battery has plenty of juice for the job. When your cutting branch after branch and half an hour passes by and the battery still reads 100%, that really says something. I definitely recommend this saw to anyone in need of a medium duty chainsaw that can handle any thing up to about 10". August 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inferior product in all catagories I used it once, it lasted only for 30 minutes and the battery was shot. Placed it under charger and it has been 24 hours and still not charged. Call HD and Ryobi, they informed me that I need to take it to a service center. It seems like our time is not valuable-- Returned it back to the store.. August 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by light weight but strong cutter Lighter than gas powered. Bar is just right length for what it's intended for. Takes a lotta juice tho and battery only lasts just under an hour of cut, stop the saw, stack the piece, cut, stack on pile, cut s'more. So I'll buy another battery so can keep working. Has handy wrench in handle to adjust chain tension. Gotta keep the hollow area in body of saw clear of debris. Little tuff to do. I'd buy it again. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this saw I'm 74 years old and live on 25 acres with lots of trees. I have two excellent saws, a Stihl and a Husqvarna, but at my age starting them was becoming very difficult. With this saw the problem is solved and it will do most of the work the other saws did. August 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not too shabby Not bad for a battery powered chain saw. Not quite like a gas powered tool, but not too shabby. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy it Good power but very very short battery life. I tried to cut a fallen tree, and had to recharge it after about 4-5 cuts at a time (of a medium sized tree). Would be good if you had a few very small trees you were cutting down or removing. July 4, 2016
