This product is a handymans wish to have around any workshop. It not only leaves a smooth and straight edge, but it's powerful and does the job right the first time. The Ryobi planer is a great tool for the small carpenters project, but also for those larger projects. It is percise, easy to use, but also very heavy duty, and can be portable if need be. Any rough edged piece of lumber can be transformed into beautiful ready to use lumber, that you may find at a home depot store. I as a owner of one, am very satisfied with the product, with no questions asked.

the job! As powerfull as the competition with less weight and much lower pricetag.
Until yesterday, I used it mostly for planing boards. Yesterday I turned a 6x6 landscape tie into a nice patio post. You'll have to clamp/screw her down, though, partly because of the lightness of this machine.
And I would appreciate (actually with a lot off tools) to get a metric replacement scale for the imperial one within the box-no matter what Mr old woodworker says: metric is more accurate once you're used to it....

I have been purchasing Ryobi products for quite awhile now having aquired a chop saw, cordless drill, biscuit jointer and now a planer. I am most impressed with the quality of the Ryobi products. Someone has taken the time to research and build quality products. I purchased this planer in January after getting a gift certificate at Christmas for the Home Depot. I brought the item home and decided to unpack it and give it a run. I was a little disapointed to find that the height adjust lever was broken but was quickly rectified by calling Home Depot in Cambridge where I purchased the planer and talked with the manager of the tool section and was told that if I were to come to the Depot I could pick up a replacement from them. After returning home I fired up the planer and ran a test board through and was very pleased with the end result and the ease of use. I would recomend this product to anyone looking to aquire a good light duty planer.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0Â by Gary1959 A decent machine with sufficient power for the general use handyman. I was able to plane about 100 sq ft of prefinished flooring pieces fairly quickly and with smooth results. This is my first thickness planer so I have nothing to compare with so the only things I can fault with this planer is as follow.
- when planing numerous boards to the same thckness, I found that if there was vibration in a pass, the depth gauge would move by itself. I actually had to tape the dial to the machine so that I could get all boards the same thickness. A locking mechanism of some sort would help.
- if I pass a board through the left side, then pass it again through the right, you would think there shouldn't be any planing to do. Not so. Even if I passed the board through one way then passed again after turning around, it would continue to remove material.
- the rollers seemed to have difficulty pulling the board through so I really had to help them along at times.
Overall, decent machine but for the serious wookworker, I wouldn't recommend.
