Will the new chargers work with older battery

Asked by: vernon
Hi Vernon. Everything in the 18V line is compatible with the exception of charging a lithium battery on a ni-cad charger. Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from P829 Kit: Decent Tools, Excellent value P829 Kit: Decent Tools, Excellent value The P829 Kit is a fantastic value for folks wanting to buy into the Ryobi One+ system. The tools in this kit are respectable. The P206 drill is durable and a hard worker, and it's the next step up from the P205/P205G drill (with 3/8" chuck) that's found in many of Ryobi's other entry-level kits (e.g., P807, P835, P893). The P206 boasts TWO bit holders and an extra bubble level in the handle, features which aren't found on any of the other Ryobi "blue" drills. (The next drill up the chain would probably be the P204/P271 with it's smaller size and faster no-load speeds.) The P206 has a 2-piece chuck, which means that two hands are required to tighten/loosen the bit in the chuck. Most of Ryobi's other drills have a 1-piece locking chuck which allows single-handed bit changes. Whether this is a a pro or a con depends on your personal preference. This kit includes a P501 circular saw. I've seen many reviews pan this saw for inadequate power, but I disagree. I use mine regularly to cut 2x4s and plywood. Yes, it does go through batteries quickly, but not nearly as fast as some reviewers claim. To extend the run-time I usually make a few cuts then immediately swap batteries on the charger while I'm making use of my freshly cut pieces. The kit comes with one P100 NiCD battery and a P115 1-Hour Fast Charger. The P115 charger features the IntelliPort feature which ensures that your battery will not get overcharged, so you can leave your battery on the charger all the time and it'll be ready when you are. If you use your tools regularly, you may want to invest in a second battery so one can be charging while the other is in use. Many reviewers complain about the P100 batteries, and rightly so for some. There's no doubt in my mind that Ryobi makes at least two versions of the P100, and one cannot tell by visual inspection which one they've got. One variant of the P100 uses quality 1700mAh cells and performs as well and any other NiCD battery pack on the market. I suspect that that other variant of P100 uses both cheaper quality and lower capacity cells (1500mAh?). Good luck to you if you get these. You may be able to determine which variant of P100 you have using the "Flashlight Test": fully charge your P100 battery, then plug it into your P700 flashlight, turn it on, and time how long it stays lit. Runtime in minutes * 10 = capacity in mAh. So if a P100 keeps your flashlight lit for 170 minutes, the tested capacity is 1700mAh. If your new P100 battery tests at over 1500mAh you've got a keeper! Note: If your batteries don't meet your expectations at first, you should recharge and try again. New NiCad batteries tend to reach full capacity after several cycles. Also, the P115 Ryobi chargers utilizes peak detection circuitry which can be fooled into terminating the charge early. To ensure a full charge, wait an hour or so after the charger shows a "green" full charge, then unclick the battery, count to five, then re-click the battery into the charger to restart the charging process. If the battery was really at full capacity the charger will stop quickly, and if it wasn't fully charged the charger should now finish the job. Finally, the kit includes a blue gate-mouth bag which holds everything.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Woefully under-powered drill The drill in this set is truly terrible. Even fully charged it's too weak to be of any use whatsoever.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good tools, Lousy bateries While the tools are pretty good the batteries are not very good. You will be replacing them on a regular basis. I sold mine and moved to the tools with the lifetime warranty on batteries and tools by Home Depot.
