Does the shaft length adjust

Asked by: rhmountainman
Shaft length does not adjust. I wish it was a few inches longer when using it as a weed cutter.

how often do u have to replace the line?

Asked by: Jamie
Just don't buy this. I spend $20 on new line every couple of months using it 3-4 times per month for about 45 mins each time. It works fairly well but between the wasted line and the fact my guard shield just broke off around each screw..avoid this product.

Customer Reviews

18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer/Edger - 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger Included is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 853.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome edger So, I have owned a 3/4 HP Electric trimmer and also a gas trimmer in the past. This Ryobi is quite a bit smaller and slower than those big boys. It will cut, but takes a bit more time. If you have one hundred feet of very thick weeds 3' tall, this is not your trimmer, get the 40V or a gas unit. However, people have not mentioned this trimmers edging capability. It's actually quite nice with very sharp lines. Because the power is a bit lower than a gas powered or 40V unit, I don't actually fear that a rock will pop up and hit me at 100 mph. In fact one did hit my forehead, but no lasting mark. Don't forget eye protection and you might be pleasantly surprised. On trimmer line coming out to fast. I was worried about this, but it worked fine. You just have to get used to running for 4 min periods of cutting instead of 30 second blasts and the string wear matched my cutting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok at best for a 1/4 acre lawn Really wanted to like it as a simpler, no maintenance trimmer, that uses the Ryobi batteries i already have... Overall...likes: size, weight, common batteries....Average: power, features... Terrible: line fead function (hate hate hate it) , rotating head.. Will try the brushless Ryobi trimmer

I thought maybe it was just a lemon they got or they were not doing something right but I had the same issue. Even while running the string would slowly be fed. I used it once for my yard and had to physically cut about 4 inches of line off because it would extend beyond the guard. I played around with it to see if I was missing something but found nothing. I returned it and got something different. I would not recommend this model.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't really measure up I bought this a year ago with a different battery and found it underpowered and the battery, like most of my other Ryobi Batteries had a short life. I didn't really like having to drag a cord out so I returned it. I was sure with the new lithium battery I would be satisfied but I got less than 30 minutes from the new style battery and noticed it was pretty slow at cutting. I am returning the new one I purchased in March 2017. Replaced it with an 80 volt. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. fast cut, long battery life. fast charge. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mostly agree with crs1306 Grab and Go! ……….with one exception. This is a replacement under warranty. It appears there is a design flaw and I may possibly be returning this second trimmer as it is exhibiting the same problem as my original Ryobi trimmer. The line string somehow gets wound close to the motor onto the motor shaft. I have to stop and untangle the line every so often. This problem most likely caused the first trimmer to break off the shield which is a molded part of the housing. Obviously this shield is not doing its job and eventually causing it to brake off completely. I am using the specified replacement line and it also happened with the original loaded line when new. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to handle and good ability to cut brush I purchased this over a month ago and I have a larger multi-acre yard. I was worried about battery life and ability to cut but this tool has proved me wrong. (I stuck with Ryobi because my previous drill and saw set lasted nearly 13 years!) I have two other batteries that go with my drill set. The Lithium+ battery lasts pretty long and my entire lot only needs one battery change-out! I have decided to pick up another electric Ryobi tool for my lot as well and love how they all can share the same batteries. I think this tool is a winner! Rated 4 out of 5 by from No more gas I bought this to replace my gas trimmer. I was surprised that this one does just right for my lawn. It also made me relize my old gas 2 string trimmer was way overkill for trimming grass and edging. That said this trimmer is for grass lawns. I would not buy this for weed control. It just doesn't have the power needed for that in my opinion. First use on the lawn and I'm convinced this trimmer will do great work and I'm very happy to move on from the gas trimmer. Also a plus my city has a small rebate for green lawn care equipment so that was nice as well. Giving four stars for being a little weak on power and seemingly heavy for what it is. Overall very happy however. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Cheap cutting shield easily broke away within a week of purchase. Local store would not take back unless I paid an additional $ 20 for them to "check it out". The super large battery says it will last "up to an hour". On low speed 20 minutes, high speed 10. Do not buy.
