I have the 18V ONE drill and want to know if this battery fits. Unable to tell by the picture or video. Thanks.

Yes, this sander only uses the 18V Ryobi batteries.

Can this be hooked up to a shop vac?

Someone else asked the diameter of the outlet and it was answered to be 1 1/2", but does that mean i can be hooked up to a shop vac with a power tool adapter like: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-2-1-2-in-Power-Tool-Adaptor-Accessory-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Vacs-VT1407/100206293 ??
Asked by: Matt
Absolutely, but that will kinda defeat the cordless part of this sander.

What hole pattern sandpaper does this use?

Asked by: Scott
it uses 5 inch 8 hole sandpaper. The Diablo sandpaper has many holes but the 8 pattern still works this it.

It runs fairly quiet and comes with three sanding discs of varying grit. I've only used it on one project thus far, but it met my expectations. My only complaint about this sander, unlike most other Ryobi tools, is that this thing just eats up battery. I have two of the largest capacity Ryobi batteries and I needed every bit of both of them to get through a project that I wouldn't have considered to be large. In general, I recommend it. However, I would advise against it if you have anything less than the high capacity batteries.

I have a number of sanders, but I was in need of an orbit sander for a few projects. I have a number of Ryobi products so I thought this was a great place to start. It does exactly as you would expect. I seem to get pretty good battery life as well, up to 20 minutes. If you need more, go for the corded. The convenience of cordless is well worth it for me though. Great sander!

I have a number of Ryobi ONE+ tools and have been very pleased with them in general. This is the first tool in the "constellation" that I have been disappointed in. While I like the overall form factor and the sander is comfortable to use, the design engineering needs work. The sander began to fail after about an hour and half of use. The mechanism connecting the sanding pad to the motor appears to have a design flaw as the pad gradually lost rotation to the point that it stopped altogether when even the slightest pressure was applied during sanding. Consequently, I had to return the sander and exchange it for a corded model even though the cordless version would have been much easier to use for my project. Power management for the battery also appears to be at issue. When it was still working, I was able to get 15-20min of use before the battery charge was depleted and I had to swap in a fresh battery. Since I have a number of spare batteries, this was more of an inconvenience than real problem, but I have not encountered similar issues on any of my other ONE+ tools, even high torque items like the circular saw. Since the ONE+ line is exclusive to Home Depot, it would behoove Home Depot to encourage Ryobi to improve this product as having a reliable portable orbital sander would be a great addition to any shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value and performance yo! For $40 orbit sander this thing is pretty good. It VIBRATES at 10k rpm and is relay good at sanding a car down to its metal. However the only thing is that if your doing some decently hard sanding like a car then it does drain the battery in about 10min. But who cares! Just get a bigger battery and you are good to go. I hope and prey they make the ONE+ with 20v or 24v. Especially if it's compatable with all the 18v equipment as well. I will be buying Ryobi one plus for the rest of my life if they continue making more powerful and portable tools. Thanks ryobi for being a solid step up from what you used to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Brainer If there's one tool where a cord gets in the way at the worst time, for me that's an orbital sander. Picked this up as I had a few finishing projects around the house, and it made sanding so much more enjoyable. I figured no cord would be awesome (it is), but I was especially impressed with the dust system RYOBI built into this. With the holes built into the sandpaper, it actually vacuums the dust right into the bag. Didn't realize how well it was working until the bag was completely full and there was no more room to collect the dust! Made for a much cleaner and enjoyable sanding experience for sure. Very happy with this purchase.

I’m real happy with this cordless sander despite the fact that I had to return the first one that failed after couple of days. But it’s real easy to return things at Home Depot and the replacement that I ordered online was already there when I returned the first. Then did about 4 hours of fairly heavy sanding with coarse sandpaper but had to change battery often. I was able keep going for hours because I have three batteries (for 5 different Ryobi tools) and two chargers which were charging most of the time while I was sanding. The cordless sander is convenient because there’s no cord that gets in the way and it does a great sanding job with no swirl marks.

This is a finish sander and is not designed to remove large amounts of material. For finish work, it works great for small jobs (I wouldn't sand a floor with this). Not having to horse with a power cord and, possibly, an extension cord is golden. One use I hadn't expected is removing layout fluid from sheet aluminum. It gives a nice patterned finish, ready for priming and painting or just leaving as is. My only complaints are the dust collection is a joke (it would work better with a shop vac connected instead of just a bag) and it goes through 4Ah batteries fairly quickly. While the dust collection bag does catch some dust, most of the dust gets thrown out the sides of the disk. Fortunately, I have plenty of batteries.
