Customer Questions & Answers

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE CABLE FROM THE DRUM?

I purchased 2 of these machines the day they arrived in my store. All excited to give it a test drive, but in looking it over and calling the customer service line, how do you remove the cable from the machine when you want to replace it or clean it and store it outside of the drum? Other than possibly removing the front feed bearings, how do you get the cable that has a couple of large speed bumps at the tail end completely out of the unit? Don't want to damage or ruin a brand new unit. Ryobi customer service was also stumped.
Asked by: dealbreaker
you probably would not want too. you will need to disassemble the whole tool to remove the grey drum to get to the cable.

But... after struggling with a manual drain auger and not getting very far, I broke down and purchased this one. The directions were a little vague, as I didn't know the difference between terms being used, but I looked over them, took a trial run, and got to work on the clog. (I did find the diagrams in the back that would have helped) I was very pleasantly surprised that this tool took care of the problem in very short order. I do wish I'd given up sooner and headed to the store. It was definitely worth it, and I'm sure I saved a lot by being able to do this myself.

Did the trick but BOY were my arms tired by the end. Had a bit of a blockage in my laundry room today (semi common occurrence in my house) and saw this product and thought I would give it a try. WOW. Worked like a charm! Ran this through the laundry room and 2 bathroom sinks in the time it would have taken me to extend my old manual auger (yes, just extend, not extend and retract!) through one drain. Easy to use, one button operation (yay no more cranking), no wires. 5 stars from this DIYer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I am a Facilities Manager for multiple commercial buildings and clogged drains are a normal thing In my daily tasks. This has been a time saving life saver. The drill powered ones our just not made with a strong enough cable and the cutter bit is normally to large for smaller hand sinks. This product has fit into 3/4 inch pipes and 2 inch pipes and has had no issues. Just like most other augers and snakes, it does have issues getting through the traps of urinals but that is expected.

I was able to use this with basically one arm as I had broken my humerus (upper arm) 4 wks earlier. After 5 mins the clog (solid grease) was cleared! The auto feed and return features worked excellent as these were detrimental due to my injury. I can only imagine that using it with both arms would be even easier. Some ryobi products are great and this is one of them.

I must have run this at least 10-20 feet down my shower drain until it found the clog. Pulled out a huge hair clog. Best $59.00 I have spent in a very long time. While the instructions leave a bit to be desired, the unit worked perfectly and I would recommend to anyone who already has bought into the Ryobi 18V eco-system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best 70 bucks ever I am a handyman. And have used lots of snakes. I had the rigid one with a hose not very good used it for years or shall I fought it for years. this Ryobi is so easy. it says in the instructions that you can go through the drain into the P trap and it did it easy. after I used it the second time I ran the whole 25 feet and did hear it clicking and stopped it immediately, not knowing what was happening. I realized that I had reached the end of the cable instead of breaking it , I reversed it. I recommend painting the last 12 inches of the cable red so you know when you reach the end. I bought a second one and keep it in the box unopened just in case they stopped manufacturing it.

This drain was plugged bad, Drano did nothing. I tried one of those 15' snakes with the offset handle crank, but I couldn't get it to negotiate all the bends in this drain. The 2" drain had a P trap turned back on itself to make a 270d bend, then 2 45s and an ell in quick succession to the T with the vent pipe which was as far as I could see in the access hole. I know it had to have at least 2 more ells before it hit the stack. Going in through the overflow, this tool negotiated all the bends with ease, and cleared the blockage without me even feeling the tool start to bind. After fighting with the hand tool for 2 hours, this tool finished the job in 5 minutes. I chose it because I have recently switched to Ryobi One for my battery driven tools. So far, I have been very pleased. I am an avid DIYer who ones several rental properties that I maintain myself.

I used various things unclog it but regardless it always returned. Finally, I decided that I needed to step up and fix it - I got this drain auger and after 1 session, I have had no troubles with the drain for several weeks.. Definitely needs 2 hands to control it, but well worth the money
