I just purchased the Ryobi glue gun a couple of weeks ago and would like to know whether it's normal to have to feed a second glue stick into the feeder when the first one isn't even close to being used up? I was using the glue gun to glue a couple of small things and I turned it off. About 15 or 20 minutes later I turned it back on and waited for it to get hot and I kept squeezing the trigger and no glue came out. I thought it might perhaps be clogged with the old glue but when I fed another glue stick in, that seem to do the trick (although the original glue stick was only used for two or three little things). Is it normal to have to feed a second glue stick into the gun despite the first glue stick not even being close to half used?

The P305 Ryobi glue gun has a removeable nozzle. You must heat up the glue gun to remove the nozzle. Be very careful not to get burnt. Always wear gloves and remove the nozzle with pliers or wrench. If you do not heat up the gun, the nozzle will not come off, or you can damage the glue gun. Surebonder nozzle will fit and have a ball check so the glue does not drip!

If the nozzle is broken I would contact Ryobi support. It should be covered under Ryobi 3 year warranty.

This is the link for the glue this gun uses, which is .5 inch diameter. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanley-10-in-Dual-Temp-Glue-Sticks-12-Pack-GS25DT/204287393

I have been using a corded surebonder hot glue gun for years (i use it to hang my Christmas lights on my brick) this thing heats up and was ready to use in about one minute which i thought was great. the battery on the bottom really helps keeps this thing standing upright even if its windy outside. i cant comment on battery life but i have a ton of batteries so i'm not worried about it. the tip is great too. its a larger opening than than the surebonder which is great for what i use it for. awesome tool for my collection and it feels great to not drag extension cords all over my house when i'm hanging lights!

After buying the gun I put it through a few tests so that I'd know it's strengths and limitations. I glued the following media to a 2x4: plastic, metal, wood, and a piece of a brick. All surfaces were clean and roughed up slightly. The bond was very good with all media, as long as I used an ample amount of glue and I didn't apply much pressure to the joint as it was drying. Too much pressure encourages squeeze-out of the glue, and the bond is weakened (as pointed out in the directions). I should mention that I haven't used any of the glue sticks that came with the gun. I use only DeWalt high-strength sticks. Aside from the strength, the sticks are also twice as long so I have more continuous work time available.

Great idea at a reasonable price however as many other hot glue guns , this one fails in the fact that there is no way to control the temperature, it heats up out of control and in my case hot glue starts to foam out of the nozzle. How difficult is it for Ryobi to install a temp control? Besides that fatal flaw the glue gun is great, portable, heats up fast! Great candidate for improvement.

The glue is boiling when it comes out if it sits more than a few minutes. I think the second version will be better if they take feedback and improve on the design. Probably would be better to just turn it off and on and not have it sitting ready. Need a timer or auto shut off feature - eats a battery up sitting idle and (as stated) the glue comes out boiling and bubbling. Seems it could go into a low power mode (yellow light) until picked up and then do a thirty second heat cycle to full temp with a beeping timer or light indicator or something similar. It is comfortable and looks great with my other Ryobi tools - very stable with both the big and little batteries. Also - the tip is a bit too wide and short for any delicate work - pretty much gobs of boiling glue on big surfaces are where this will shine - but doesn't help me much when building foam airplanes.

I never realized how much of a pain the cord on a glue gun was until I used this one. Dropping the cord lets you work at any angle without the cord getting in the way. The battery base is super stable, whereas my old glue gun kept falling over. The biggest plus though might be that it doesn't drip at all. My old glue gun would end up with a pile of glue dripping out the tip. Not even a dribble now.

Surebonder has had a hybrid gun that uses the Ryobi One+ batteries for a while now, but Ryobi just blew their socks off in the price department with this thing! Not having a cord to deal with is a HUGE plus for me, and I love that the glue gun stands up on its battery and is very stable. I'm not worried about this one tipping over! Plus, it stands up even without the battery inserted. The downside to the stability is that the glue gun is a little bottom heavy, and not well balanced when being used. It heats up and dispenses glue in just over a minute. I measured the glue temp at 315°F after it was on for 10 minutes. I measured again at 30 minutes, and got 400°F for the glue temperature. I imagine it reached full temp in about 15 minutes, but I just didn't measure in that time period. Anyway, 400°F is hot enough for just about any hot glue application you'll need. One downside is there are no temperature controls, so if you're working with more delicate materials that might melt, then you'll have to turn the power switch off intermittently so the gun doesn't reach full temperature. I tested mine with a 1.3Ah P102 battery, and got approximately 45 minutes of run time out of it. If you extrapolate that to a 4Ah battery, it comes out to 2.3 hours. That's quite a bit lower than the claimed 3.5 hour runtime for a 4Ah P108 battery, but it's possible that the bigger batteries with two sets of cells run a little more efficiently than the compact versions. Although that's a 50% difference in claimed vs projected run time, so I don't know if I'd give them that much leeway. Even with the dubious run time claims, I'm still pretty happy with the actual run times I got out of it. If you have two P102 batteries, you should be able to use it almost constantly without having to wait for batteries to charge. This uses standard 0.45" diameter glue sticks. I measured the three that it came with at 0.43" diameter with a pair of calipers. Close enough. The only real concern I have about the gun is that the trigger feels a little flimsy. It hasn't broken yet, and may never break, but it just doesn't feel super sturdy. I plan to baby mine a bit and make sure I don't squeeze the trigger until the glue is soft, in order to avoid unnecessary stress on the components. Overall, I love this glue gun. I've been using mine for a few weeks now with no problems at all. I love not having a cord, and don't think I will be going back any time soon!

I cant say enough about this glue gun, it make little project where you need to get a "GRIP" on it! I love the fact that it uses the 18v battery, sometimes the cord just gets in the way. This little glue gun heats up really fast...about a min or so for it to be ready to use! and the two finger trigger is also a great feature, no more over stressing one finger on a hard pull...Also i love that you can use the high strength adhesive in it as well!... look out small fixes around the house I'm coming for you!!!
