Questions & Answers

Does the sanding attachment use loop and pile? If not, what?

Asked by: Nimbo
Yes, hook and loop but finding the sanding pads is nearly impossible, which renders the sander useless. My Home Depot (Aurora, Oh) and all those around here dont carry them and they're extremely difficult to find on amazon, etc. Zero stars on this tool.

Does it have the quick change trigger or do you have to use an Allen wrench to remove the blades?

Asked by: David
You need an allen wrench.

Can it undercut floor trim?

The picture shows the tool without a battery. With a battery installed it appears that the battery would prevent a horizontal cut.
Asked by: ok1wire
Yes it can. I have used it myself to undercut floor trim in my bathroom remodel

Anyone else have any trouble with the sensitivity of this tools thermal shutdown protection? As in running for just a few short minutes before it shuts itself off?
Asked by: JoeJob
Thank you for asking, JoeJob. If the troubleshooting tips in the products operating manual do not address or aid in resolving the particular difficulty that you are experiencing, then there is possibly something wrong with the product that an authorized service provider should check and advise on or correct. For warranty coverage/service and repairs, your closest authorized service center can be determined from the service center locator URL below, by using your mailing zip code in the search field. The service center should be contacted and arrangements made for warranty service, prior to taking the complete product in to them. https://www.ryobitools.com/outdoor/support/service-centers. 18-Volt ONE+ JobPlus Base with Multi-tool Attachment (Tool-Only) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 319.

I already had a 12v multi-tool from another manufacturer but the idea of not having to horse around with a power cord and, at times, an extension cord for small jobs looked attractive so I gave this one a shot. While it is not as powerful as the 120v tool, it is more than adequate for all but really large jobs (such as removing vinyl floor tile or sheet flooring in an entire room) and, being battery operated, is far more convenient. It is also lighter than the 120v tool which is much easier on my old hands and arm. It has been very handy around the house for small, quick jobs that would have been a chore with 120v multi-tool (which I haven't used since I bought the Ryobi a couple of years ago). Being able to rotate the head on the base has enabled the tool to get into places the 120v would not have a ghost's chance of getting into. Of course, being able to use the stable full of Ryobi Plus one batteries I already have is also a good thing. Another bonus is I can use other Job Max tool heads with the base of this tool (I wish I had known that back when I bought my Ryobi right angle drill). The light on the tool I have is pretty much useless since the blade gets in the way of the light beam. Having to use an Allen wrench to change blades, etc. is inconvenient but the only multi-tools I've seen that do not require a wrench to change the blades cost significantly more and would not use the Plus One batteries. Also, although the direction of the rotation of the base can be changed with a small lever under the trigger, there are no markings indicating which way is which (the Job Max hammer head, which is now discontinued, requires that the tool be to forward only). Over all, for occasional use around the home, this tool is hard to beat for the money, especially if one already has a Plus One charger and batteries.

I used the few sanding triangles that came with the tool in a starter pack. They worked great. So, I needed more sanding pads. Guess what? You cant find them. Anywhere. No Home Depots near me carry them. The tool section clerk just couldn't believe that he didn't have them. After looking for 10 minutes, he gave up. Amazon? Nope. Ebay? Nope. I ended up finding some that were too big for the sanding head and I just used them. Every few minutes I'd rotate the pad so that there was a new section of the pad on the front point, which is a stupid way to have to work. Look at all the other questions on the product site asking where to get pads. Zero stars for Ryobi on this tool.

I like that the heads are interchangeable with the Ridgid multi-tool, so now I don't have to buy all new heads. Love that this is part of the Ryobi ONE+ system, so I don't have to buy new batteries. Fits in hand nicely and also like the rubberized portions. Would have liked that the rubberized portion covered the entire handle where the hand sits. The largest battery makes it a bit heavy but the smaller One+ batts make it feel better, so that the hands don't tire out as quickly. Overall a pretty decent tool for the price, even more so if you already have the attachments from the Ridgid system and the batts and chargers from the other Ryobi 18V ONE+ catalog.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Versatile and convenient tool but not well built and durable This tool is very versatile and convenient, and I use it quite often. Plus it can take different heads and that is very useful. However, the battery contacts dont seem to last long. I had one which was broke after less than a year. And the forward/reverse switch is extremely hard to use, and is stuck half of the time. This Ryobi tool is the 2nd or 3rd generation already and never bothers to fix this little but important feature. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

So foolish of me to purchase this garbage again, however I need to do my work until then I'll be changing all the tools to dewalt instead of this bad product. You would think that it wood at least last for one year but nope not a chance.

I've used it for several projects and it's done quite well. Only four stars because I'm not happy with how long the blades last. They seem to dull quickly, and they're very expensive comparatively to replace. The light on it is a good idea, but more than half the time the way I held the tool, the light was blocked and not shinning on the work area.

This tool's ability to use various attachments even from another company make this a permanent part of my collection. One down side is that it is not as durable as dedicated corded unit. I burnt my last base up in less than a year but it had been exposed to unusually harsh conditions a few times. Still "Bang for the Buck" One Plus can't be beaten.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great tool. Blades not so much An amazing tool to get all kinds of things done. That being said, be prepared to spend the cost of the tool on blades with only moderate use very quickly. Stock Ryobi blade was dead in a day. 25$ Bosch metal -cutting blade wouldn't even finish 10 linear feet of a plaster wall. If it wasn't so good at reaching hard to cut areas I would return it.
