Answer:
No. I already had some batteries. So buying the tool by itself is a way to save. But only if you already had the batteries.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Still going! After years of service, this saw is still going. While I've replaced it with a newer green model, it still comes in to service when I have helpers on big projects. No matter what I've thrown at it, it just won't die. I admit, I do miss the laser guide when I'm using the newer model, as well as the ability to use a wider variety of blades. I also liked the built in blade storage. I'm glad I kept this tool around. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hit or miss quality I have a few of these saws and found that it is "hit or miss" quality. One of my saws died early on and was not replaceable under warranty. My second saw has an intermittent switch problem and again, was not replaced. My third saw is still going good. Not "Professional" quality but keep in mind that it IS battery operated and made for the mid or lower price point user, in my opinion. Cuts are better when used with a high quality blade. Ryobi support is lacking. Products were not replaced by Ryobi because the stamped date codes were out of warranty (just a couple weeks after purchasing). I'm not the best at tracking receipts so I mark this one up to a poor product by Ryobi and poor record keeping by me. Works ok with the older ni-cad & better with the Lithium batteries. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good so far I decided to buy this saw when my corded saw started failing due to worn brushes, as I already have several One Plus tools. I was not aware that the saw comes with special t-shank blades, and although the operator's manual warns about it, regular blades have worked fine for me. I like how quick and easy it is to change blades with no tools - my old saw required a hex wrench that kept falling out of its holder. The built-in storage compartment is not big enough to hold the longer of the two blades that comes with the saw, an obvious design flaw. The yellow plastic guard is difficult to remove and install, so I don't use it. October 16, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Jig Saw Ever Very, very disappointed after a year or so of use. The thing (saber saw) WILL NOT cut stright. The blade and up-and-down assembly is allover the place, even if you use a straight wood block clamped down to guide it. Laser is worthless if the blade starts going left and right and the laser is dead on the line. Wouldn't buy again. My advice is avoid. Bought it as part of a One+ combo. Drill is OK, and light is, well, a light. This jig saw, however, I am just throwing away! January 4, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Orbital Jig Saw I found the saw to be underpowered for cutting a 5/8" piece of plywood. The blades that came with the saw barely made progress. It also did not work with all of the 18V batteries (lithium Ion) even though the batteries were charged and worked with other tools. I was disappointed. I resorted to a rotary saw to do the cutout to mount an air discharge on the box I had made - mounting an indoor air conditioner/heat pump hose which vents through the wall in my garage. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best, but good for the money I actually haven't used mine, yet. I bought the whole Ryobi line because I used a friend's tools. While I don't think they are the best tools on the market, I did learn that they are made by the same company who makes other reputable and reliable brands. I paid HALF the money I would have for other name brands. If I made my living or used them every day, I may have purchased a different brand. Since I'm a home owner and hobbyist, these tools will do just fine for me. January 7, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product Returned The saw was powerful and relatively light. But on the first job I tried it with, I learned the stage the saw rested on was not 90 degrees to the blade. It is adjustable, but clumsily, without degree markings or any way to adjust the saw outside the pre-set angle slots. So, I couldn't make it work for my needs. My previous Ryobi wired saw had degree markings and a variable adjustment, so I guess I assumed this one would as well. Didn't make sense to keep the saw without that control. June 19, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This inexpensive jig-saw has a lot going for it!! We work in a busy mold making shop, so the majority of our tools are more expensive, professional grade "top names'. The fact that it uses all "one-plus" batteries (Lithiums and cadmiums), takes "T type" blades, has a lot of metal on the gearing area and base plate, has a handy lazer light guide that one can turn on and off and re-align, and has an adjustable blade action puts it up with the "big boys". When one adds another two years "full replacement" warranty to its own two year coverage, I'll have this tool for four years...Not bad for a mere sixty bucks. One con concerns the storage compartment.. It is too small for any more than one blade and the tiny allen wrench (to adjust light) and the lid comes open too easily so the contents can be lost. Otherwise, well built, feels good in the hand and smooth operation. August 6, 2012
