Hello Day! The lithium battery will work on the old blue 18 volt tools. You will need the lithium charger to charge the new batteries. Thanks for the question!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product but battery life is not consistant I have almost every 18-Volt ONE+ tool Ryobi makes. I am very happy with them, however, the lithium battery life is inconsistant. Some of them fail very early, while others have lasted me for years. I have had four early failures, and unfortunately I had not kept my receipts except for one. None of the tools have failed Keep your battery receipts, and the store will give you a replacement within the three years of the warranty. Alternatively, the same company (thus it is not a competitor) makes a premium line of tools under the name of Ridgid, also sold exclusively at Home Depot. The Ridgid line has a lifetime warranty, including the batteries. May 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Charge and maintains for long life. A good product with multiple features. If you have recently upgraded to the new Lithium batteries, they can not be charged on the existing Ni-Cad charger from the original product, so you will need to upgrade the charger as well. This is an excellent option as it will charge both Lithium and Ni-Cad batteries as well as maintain batteries not in use without overcharging or damaging the battery. The charger provides "lighted" indicators to let you know the status of the battery weather it be "charging", "Full charge", "Bad Battery" or in a state of "maintaining the current charge. A good choice to get the most out of your batteries for the longest time possible. August 29, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great battery but Ryobi has horrible service Most of the time you will get a good battery from Ryobi, but sometimes they don't last and Ryobi doesn't honor the warranty unless you can return it to Home Depot. I like the Ryobi products, but if you get something that goes bad after a few months, you may as well just throw it away. February 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love having NO Wires BUT ! Honest love that I have an extra battery but it is not the larger one, it is the smaller one. When you use the blower the machine does not work for that long at all. Large battery maybe 15 or 20 mins, but having the other one fully charged you have another 10 mins to complete your job. It is funny the weed wacker lasts longer on both batteries. I would buy this again only because I hate dragging the wires all over my property. So I guess they are worth it, but they should make them to last a longer period of time at these prices, although this smaller one I got on sale June 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far very impressed. I only have one day's experience with this product but so far I am very impressed. I had several Nicad batteries that would not hold a charge and two Li-Ion batteries that my old charger said were defective. I bought this kit to get me a new battery and I thought the new Intelliport charger might be good to have. It charged both "defective" batteries without a hitch. I am now charging my old nicads to see if it will help them out too but even if it just keeps my lithium batteries going I am very happy. Especially at $60 for the charger and a new battery. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi P126 Kit - Good Deal This kit is an excellent value with the included P114 IntelliPort charger and the P103 Compact LiIon battery. The P114 is the next generation of Dual Chemistry chargers, taking the P113 one step further by adding the IntelliPort technology. With Intelliport technology, there's no need to worry about overcharging your battery. In fact, this charger is designed to let you keep a battery plugged in at all times so it will be ready when you are. The charger is Energy Star compliant and draws 10x less power when idle than its predecessor, the P113 (as per my Kill-A-Watt). The P103 Compact LiIon battery is much lighter weight that a full-sized battery and this makes it a great choice for use with a drill or other hand tool that you're likely to be carrying all day. The P103 was originally released with 1.3Ah cells (rated 24Wh), and then in early 2012 Ryobi started selling the P103 with 1.5Ah cells (rated 28Wh). The high quality Samsung cells inside the P103 ensure that the battery delivers every bit of its rated power. As with any Ryobi kit containing LiIon batteries, check the packaging or battery for the manufacture date before making your purchase (e.g., CS1345 = 2013, week 45). Always select the newest package, and avoid purchasing units manufactured more than a year old as Ryobi ships batteries with a very low charge level and LiIon cells don't fare well when sitting discharged for such a long time. Note that fully charged LiIon cells can sit idle for more than a year with no problem, but this isn't done by manufacturers for both cost and safety reasons. January 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best buy for sure I just bought today at Home depot, I got a 24Wh upgraded battery and it charged fast! I stuck in a 6 year old 1.5 amp old yellow and black battery in it. stayed red on charger, so I looked at contacts-dirty. I used a simple pencil eraser and cleaned silver battery contacts and it charged just as fast. from a children author, william2233 October 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent battery upgrade Compared to the NiCd batteries that came with the Ryobi tools, this lithium battery is a significant improvement - more powerful & seems to last longer. I looked into rebuilding the NiCd and the cost was the same as buying a new battery which is only slighty less than the lithium. Have not owned it long enough yet to see if longevity is improved, but expect so for this technology. May 15, 2012
