This kit contains a P117 IntelliPort charger and a P102 Compact LiIon battery.
The P117 charger is Ryobi's best 18v model and it can charge a new and fully depleted P102 battery in just over 1/2 hour. With the Intelliport technology, there's no need to worry about overcharging your battery. In fact, this charger is designed to let you keep a battery plugged in at all times so it will be ready when you are. The P117 charger recharges your batteries about 50% faster than the P118, so if you have a P118 now and need a faster turnaround, the P117 will be a good choice. The P117 charger was originally marketed as a "one hour" charger, but later Ryobi changed the claim to a "30 minute" charger. Both claims are correct as it takes about an hour to charge the older P100 NiCD batteries but only about 1/2 hour to charge a new P102. The P117 is Ryobi's only 18v charger with an LED which indicates that a battery is too hot or too cold to be charged safely.
The P102 Compact LiIon battery is much lighter weight that a full-sized battery and this makes it a great choice for use with a drill or other hand tool that you're likely to be carrying all day. This battery will give new life to tools which were formerly being used with older NiCD batteries. The P102 contains cells which are rated 1.3Ah and the packs are rated 24Wh, but I'd say that this is at best an exaggeration and that a 1.2Ah/22Wh would be a more realistic rating.
If you're wanting to bring new life to your old 18v Ryobi "blue" tools, the P128 kit is a good choice for doing that.
But if you already have some LiIon batteries, you may want to consider kits with the P107 or P108 batteries instead for their greater energy when compared to a P102.
As with any Ryobi kit containing LiIon batteries, check the packaging or battery for the manufacture date before making your purchase (e.g., serial number begins with CS1438 = 2014, week 38). Always select the newest package, and avoid purchasing units manufactured more than a year old as Ryobi ships batteries with a very low charge level and LiIon cells don't fare well when sitting discharged for such a long time. Note that fully charged LiIon cells can sit idle for more than a year with no problem, but this isn't done by manufacturers for both cost and safety reasons.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Joey I been Upgraded.
Have an old Ryobi starter kit with several other ryobi one tools. The batteries went dead after about 7 months. I ask an associate about this, was told to upgrade to +one lithium Battery and charger and walla. Just like magic, not only is the lithium battery better, but i also put old battery in and they came back to life. So off to work i go.

I had 2 old NiCad 18 volt batteries. One wouldn't charge at all and the other would lose what little charge it had in 2 days. This new Lithium Ion charger
charged them both and now I have 3 batteries to use.
We use the Ryobi 18 volt flash light all the time and it's so much lighter with this new battery. Great buy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bobby An excellent product — and a bonus!
The lithium battery was much lighter than I expected which made it a pleasure to use on all my Ryobi tools. I expected a longer battery life between charges and it didn't disappoint.
The new charger indicator lights did a great job of letting me know status of the battery and the charging process. There was an additional bonus with the charger — it resurrected my old series of Ryobi NiCad batteries which I had previously consigned to the recycle bin!

I purchased a ryobi multitool set a few years back and the batteries were getting very short lived. The charger added life to my old batteries and I now have the smaller lighter lithium battery. This product was also significantly lower priced than other online stores.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MPAdmin So much better than Ni-Cd (duh)...
This charger is great...it charges both the old yellow&black Ni-Cd and the green/black Li-Ions. It takes about 45mins to an hour to charge the Ni-Cd and about 25-30mins to charge the Li-Ions.
I was skeptical about the small size of the compact Li-Ion battery it comes with but it runs longer than the Ni-Cd batteries do. And the lighter weight is so much easier to carry around.
The best feature I think is being able to leave the charger plugged in with a battery on it so it always maintains a charge on the battery. Perfect for when you need to use it with no prior notice. No need anymore to wait to charge your battery to get started on your little project or chore. And in "Maintain" mode it doesn't use alot of electricity...it's like a TV on standby.
And even if you don't want to leave the charger plugged in, the Li-Ions hold a charge much longer than Ni-Cd batteries do....MUCH longer. So no more grabbing a battery to start doing something only to find it's dead and needs a charge.

Well the charger is quick to do its job and the battery is good to have around. One more thing, the indicator lights are nice and big and it is easier to clarify what the status of the charge is.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bill Allows me to use my old NiCad batteries
The new chargers and lithium battery are as expected. It's great that I can continue to use my old NiCad batteries as well with this charger.
