I own a lot of Ryobi products. I have been happy with most of my power tools. I also purchased the 40V chainsaw and some other yard equipment and generally have been happy. The CFM's on this unit are very impressive and at about half the cost of the Echo you seem to get a lot of value for your money. Mine seemed to have difficulty starting. It would start eventually, but 8-10 pulls was required every time. This was too much for a new unit. It seems that about 1 in 5 units have issues and I did not want to be stuck with this unit if it was to stop after one season. So you have about an 80% chance of being happy with this product. I returned mine and bought the Echo. I will still purchase Ryobi products, but not one with a gasoline engine.

Blower was easy to assemble out of the box, and worked great for the fall. Pulled the blower out to do some spring cleaning and it ceased up during use. Item was over 30 days old so couldn't return it to Home depot, so took it to a Ryobi recommended service center where they charged me $46 to say that the engine had ceased up due to improper fuel mixture, despite following the recommended mixture directions in the instruction booklet. Persued issue through Ryobi, who were no help at all. Will not buy Ryobi product again.

i am a 64 yr old woman, 5' 4", weight 130 lbs who does the yard work. We have a hilly 1/2 acre of pines, oaks and other leaf shedding trees. What used to take me hours with the handheld blower now only takes me half the time.
This blower isn't heavy, once I adjusted the straps to fit me and I got over being nervous about strapping a running motor to my back, it was fantastic! Talk about moving leaves both wet and dry, I was overjoyed!
It took us about 20 minutes to put together, it started on the first try and while I've only used it once, I can hardly wait to use it again. No more dragging extension chords around and having to rake large piles of leaves when the old blower couldn't move them any further.
I am one happy camper. Thanks Ryobi for making a product that lives up to my expectations.

As you can see from all of the accolades above me here, this is a terrific leaf blower! Light weight, easy starting, comfortable to wear and MAN does it blow leaves, debris and just about anything you want!! The price for the power and features is excellent. I have a Ryobi weed whacker with edger attachment and it has been on the job since 1997. I have every confidence that I will get the same great service from this RY08420 as well. If you're in the market for a backpack leaf blower, you've found the one!

I live in Pennsylvania and it's fall. No explanation beyond that needed for my purchase of a blower. The blower was very easy to assemble and I had it together and running in about fifteen minutes. It works as advertised. One small issue that I will echo from other reviews is the restart after a fuel up. The blower starts very easily when it's cold but restarting once its hot takes a bit more effort. However that is a very small issue to me and I've been using the blower quite a bit so far. I would recommend this product for the average homeowner but not for any commercial use.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by McDermit Great unit, while it ran
I purchased this backpack blower last fall and it was wonderful. We were able to move large piles of leaves quickly, doing the work of 2 or 3 people with rakes. We used it 3 times, then winterized it.
Pulled it out this spring, and the engine was seized. I thought, "no big worry, we are still well within the warranty." Brought it in to a Ryobi authorized servicer only to find out Ryobi won't cover it.
We followed the 2-cycle mix (using the oil Ryobi provided and premium gas) and ran the unit dry before storing it. The same treatment all of my other 2-cycles get, and exactly what the owner's manual says. But no, it is not a manufacturer's defect, it must have been something I did to it.
To sum it up: Great product, pray you don't need the warranty. I will never buy any Ryobi product again.

I was looking for a good leaf blower and this one was on sale for 189$. Read the reviews and sounded like a great product.
Brought it home, put some mixed gas in it. Pumped the ball 6 times and it fired right up.
This thing blows air strong. It gets the leaves, pine needles, etc and throws it 10'.
The only thing I wish would be better is throttle control. If you pull full throttle it bogs down. You have to slowly go full throttle to prevent that.
It is light weight, comfortable straps, not quiet but that is to be expected.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EMM Good value but maladjusted carburetor
Good value in a full featured, powerful blower - with one caveat. I returned my initial blower for an exchange when the throttle bogged significantly going from idle to full, due to a poorly adjusted carburetor.
The second blower had the same throttle lag - it was set much too lean . Note that the carburetor adjustment screws on this blower are designed to be "tamper proof", requiring a special "pac-man" style tool.
Rather than returning the blower a second time, I instead ordered the necessary carburetor tool on line and set the carburetor myself. Properly adjusted, it has performed well.
