As with previous reviews, when this blower works it has tons of power. However, the carburetor on this blower is terrible. It constantly needs adjustment and runs inconsistently, sometimes bogging down, sometimes running high. However, you can't adjust the carburetor yourself, as you require a special type of pacman key. Very few places also carry this key, so you have limited choice of repair shops.
Overall, if your purchase doesn't have carburetor issues, this is a great blower. If you are what seems to be about 30% of customers with carburetor problems, then save yourself the frustration and just go buy another model. Definitely not worth the frustrations of poor performance.

I purchased the Ryobi pack blower because I have been satisfied with other Ryobi yard tools. Purchased one that would not start, cord seized. Called Ryobi customer service & no resolve. Exchanged for the same model, had the tool rental guys to start it to make sure we were getting a working unit. Get the 2nd blower home & it keeps shutting off after starting. Not happy.

Purchased one and had major issues starting from day one, keep it 28 days and returned it for another one (same model). Big Mistake! After three months the same issue again, returned it and not covered for a refund nor a credit. Spent $18.00 and it was shipped out to Atlanta, four weeks later I received a call that it had carb issues?????????????, estimated cost $140.00 for the repair. I told them don't fix it!!! It was shipped back to the store, explained my situation to the manager (again) and after 1/2 an hour of bickering I received a store credit. Not the refund I wanted.
p.s. I thought I'd try a backpack blower and keep my TEN year old handheld for smaller jobs.

Bought this product three seasons ago. Worked fine for the first season. Seemed to lose a little power the second season. Used it relatively frequently but just for home use. In the middle of leaf cleanup this season, it would not start. Took it to a repair shop and they said that it is not worth repairing because the seals are shot. Repair shop said that these blowers have cheap seals in the cylinders and they lose compression after a few years if you don't put the pre-mixed gas with stabilizer in all the time. At $4 a quart that is pretty expensive to operate.
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $100 and get a better brand that will last more than a few seasons. You will be happier in the long run.

I own a lot of Ryobi products. I have been happy with most of my power tools. I also purchased the 40V chainsaw and some other yard equipment and generally have been happy. The CFM's on this unit are very impressive and at about half the cost of the Echo you seem to get a lot of value for your money. Mine seemed to have difficulty starting. It would start eventually, but 8-10 pulls was required every time. This was too much for a new unit. It seems that about 1 in 5 units have issues and I did not want to be stuck with this unit if it was to stop after one season. So you have about an 80% chance of being happy with this product. I returned mine and bought the Echo. I will still purchase Ryobi products, but not one with a gasoline engine.

If you don't mind pulling the string for 10 minutes, dying during operation, this is the product for you. In a moment of weakness, I allowed the Home Depot sales rep into selling me another Ryobi, I swore I would never buy another Ryobi. According to him they have improved their quality over time. NOT so, they are poor quality Chinese mass manufacture junk. Stay away, spend the few extra dollars and get something that is reliable.

i am a 64 yr old woman, 5' 4", weight 130 lbs who does the yard work. We have a hilly 1/2 acre of pines, oaks and other leaf shedding trees. What used to take me hours with the handheld blower now only takes me half the time.
This blower isn't heavy, once I adjusted the straps to fit me and I got over being nervous about strapping a running motor to my back, it was fantastic! Talk about moving leaves both wet and dry, I was overjoyed!
It took us about 20 minutes to put together, it started on the first try and while I've only used it once, I can hardly wait to use it again. No more dragging extension chords around and having to rake large piles of leaves when the old blower couldn't move them any further.
I am one happy camper. Thanks Ryobi for making a product that lives up to my expectations.

As you can see from all of the accolades above me here, this is a terrific leaf blower! Light weight, easy starting, comfortable to wear and MAN does it blow leaves, debris and just about anything you want!! The price for the power and features is excellent. I have a Ryobi weed whacker with edger attachment and it has been on the job since 1997. I have every confidence that I will get the same great service from this RY08420 as well. If you're in the market for a backpack leaf blower, you've found the one!
