I have always been very satisfied with everything I've purchased from Home Depot. However, even though this sander works fine and serves the purpose I bought it for, I was disappointed to find that it had been used prior to my purchase. The tool was dirty and had saw dust in the collection bag when I opened what was supposed to be a brand new tool. Someone had either used it, then returned it, or it had been used in the store and placed back on the rack and sold as new. Thankfully, the sander works without problems. I have learned from this experience. I will be sure the next time to check the box for factory seals from now on.

The sand paper attachment is rather primitive, but it eventually holds the paper in place. That said, it
does a good job

My old sander died in the middle of a project and I didn't want to spend a lot on a new one. I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised with this sander!
This tool has plenty of power and was able to take down 1/4" of wood using 60 grit sandpaper with very little effort (yes, I know, measure twice cut once and don't drink beer in between!). The dust bag isn't bad, but when I hooked up my shop vac to it, there was literally no dust coming out of this little machine.
My only grips is the sandpaper backing pad is made out of a soft foam and is already wearing away. I made the mistake of putting self adhesive sand paper on it and more than a few small chunks of foam tore off when I peeled the paper away. HD doesn't carry replacement pads (that I've been able to find anyway), so it will be a bit of a pain to get a new one.
All in all a great little sander for the price.

After 20 hours the bearing between the pad and the motor disintegrated. They should send me a new bearing no charge. Then we could go to 5 stars. Cheap parts, cheap price...

Lightweight and ergonomic design fits in hand. Removing sandpaper left minor damage to pad.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by TVG CLIPPING THE PAPER IN IS A ROYAL PAIN
PROS: I like Ryobi tools in general. This was the 5th new Ryobi power tool I have purchased in the past 2 yrs. Power is sufficient. Accessory bag is very attractive, although I have zero use for those bags. Comfortable gummy handle and convenient on/off switch. Vacuums dust up better than my old Porter Cable, whose dust catcher was hard foam and basically garbage. Dust bag on this is very nice and convenient to remove or install.
CONS: 1) Very flimsy clips to attach paper. They flop around when you are trying to put the paper in. Not enough space between clip and plastic edge to grip the paper. There are protrusions on the left and right sides that keep the paper from going in nicely. Awkward system. I liked my old Porter Cable palm sander's clipping system much better; those clips stayed generally where you put them, until you moved them again. I am taking this back to exchange for something with better clips. They skimped just a little too much on the sandpaper attachment. If not for the clips I would keep this tool.
2) After 2 weeks use, the pad does not seem to be holding up well at all.
